Wasn’t this only for off-site graduations if the venue didn’t require it?

Those teams may also not allow spectators, so your choice might be to volunteer and wear a mask or stand in the parking lot and hope you get a glimpse through the fence. I know of at least two teams against whom we are swimming who have said limited or no spectators. This is not a normal summer. Better than last year but not normal.

I’m not sure what you mean by the part in bold. The VDH has stressed that “should” does not mean the same as “must”, but they do recommend.

The second part is up to the pool at which you are swimming. If you don’t want to sign up, don’t sign up. I have been to many NVSL pools over the past 12 years and there have been times their set up or rules are different from ours and we follow them. When I go to someone else’s house I abide by their rules.

But they voted against it for meets? I’m confused now.


They voted down the draft that said everyone has to be masked. They are now saying that unvaccinated should[i] mask.

The NVSL is not saying vaccinated should wear masks.

CDC has said risk is very low of outdoor transmission but still large gatherings should be avoided if unvaxxed and/or unmasked. Half of any swim team is not vaxxed simply due to age. The chances of asymptomatic kids spreading it to each other, outside, in a pool, is basically zero. But those concerned are free to wear and make their kids wear masks. It’s quite simple to accommodate.


Written like a person who has not watched the 8 and under practice. Those kids have zero distancing ability. I don’t care where they are - being 2 inches apart, nose to nose, is unacceptable in any time (covid or not). Add covid and some adults who don’t believe in vaccines or masking and I really can’t see why we can’t mandate masks at these large events. It doesn’t hurt anyone and it protects the kids who can’t be vaccinated (and may be the victims in the 8u popping bubble crowd).


So...make YOUR kids wear masks, or stay home. The rest of us can assess the “risk” for ourselves.

The NVSL isn’t requiring masks, so aren’t we beating a dead horse here?


Our rep is interpreting it as we DO have to wear masks: "While those who are vaccinated do not have to wear masks, it is recommended that all swimmers (especially unvaccinated swimmers – with special attention to swimmers under 12 who are not able to be vaccinated) wear a mask in the designated team areas at dual meets."


Timers, Stroke & Turn Judges, Referee & Starter, and Table workers should wear masks



Even if vaccinated?

And why at all? Right now these parents are talking to each other at practice but during a meet they have to wear mask while being near each other? None of this makes any sense.


“Should”, not “must”.
