It’s already here...and everywhere. People are inadvertently passing germs without realizing they’ve been exposed and are carrying it.
Worse, people who know they are sick with something respiratory are venturing out. I was a store yesterday in which at least two different people were coughing hard. I was tempted to abandon my cart, but I’d finally found an item I wanted to stock up on.
This time of year that could easily be allergies.

This is not true. They returned on Feb 20 and only went to the hospital this week. We don’t know who they exposed in the meantime.
Oh my mistake. Still, it's not community transmission. If they spread it to other people in the community then we are still at the early stages of the epidemic. It's unlikely anyone will run into someone they infected for at least a few weeks and more than like 6-8 weeks. It will probably spread here from other sources (or is already here from other sources) long before these people cause a community spread.

The problem is most Americans are too hopped up on their freedoms to do what’s best. Most wont self-quarantine or stay home for 2 weeks. I just talked to a friend (not sure I’d call her that now) traveling to a level 3 country with her family who got mad at me when I said (citing CDC’s travel page for said country) her family should stay home for 2 weeks upon return. She’s not going to.

On the issue of the kids: Keep in mind that a 0.2 fatality rate is equivalent to the flu. I understand the concern about children—trust me—but that is luckily not hugely different than what we face every year.

I totally agree. WTF is wrong with our country. We should have been out in front of this. Frankly, the whole nation should be in quarantine right now to have any chance at slowing this down. Feels like the government isn’t taking this seriously at all.

I couldn’t agree more. Wishing I didn’t live in the US at the moment. Since the CDC couldn’t get their act together with testing we could at least try being proactive NOW and shut it all down to stem the spread before our health care system is overrun. If we can’t come together on that last straw there will be so many lives lost that could have been saved like in Hong Kong and Vietnam where they contained it. We have had months to prepare and yet we’ve done nothing. I can only imagine if we were the Hubei how we would have been even more screwed but then again I think it’s not much different since we haven’t prepared anymore than China did when they didn’t even see it coming. Yet they built 2 hospitals in 10 day. You think we could have done SOMETHING in that time to prepare. Its really laughable how we mine as well be on par with third world countries. But what can we do to change any of that?
We are crippled by incompetence.

I mean, on local news tonight they pointed that the labs near Frederick are just now back and functional after having to be shut down due to being in such bad condition..
I live in Frederick. The Ft Detrick lab was closed because of code violations unrelated to coronavirus. They are a level 4 lab and work on Ebola level stuff. It has nothing to do with what you’re talking about.

Yes, it is awful. The scary part is his ordeal was “mild”. Those with severe symptoms end up in the ICU.

For all you people saying it’s just a cold/flu... yes for the majority of people. But no one has immunity and it will cause a surge in the hospitals. So whatever you all normally go to the hospital for, it will definitely affect you if they are out of equipment or their staff is off being quarantined.

Which article? There have been HUNDREDS posted. Many describe how quickly it’s spreading without quarantines. And they say how it’s mild for most (80%) but severe for 20%. 20% of any significant number of people will quickly overload our medical facilities.
I honestly wasn’t worried when I saw other countries addressing it and containing it. I’m worried now because the US is doing NOTHING. Not even testing. It’s just nuts.

That makes it worse. They didn’t feel sick enough to stay home. They were out and about spreading it.
