Np. I'm a vegetarian for animal rights reasons. My family and I are bird watchers, and love going to our park and just watching the geese and ducks in the pond. BUT, I don't think op is terrible in the least. Accidents happen.

Op here with a final update.

I did write to the Nexdoor thread, since it had died down enough I felt like there wouldn’t be a lot of responses, and just said (as recommended here) that I didn’t realize the bird was dead, I thought I nicked it, I feel terrible now that I realize what’s been going on and how hurt people are, and I’m glad for the support of the neighborhood in protecting these birds.
Something to that affect.
So hopefully this issue is put to rest, like the bird in it’s pond side grave, and my neighborhood can move on to the prior hot topic issue of teenagers milling around the playground after dark.
