Private school parent here-our lovely school passed the cost differential onto us (a little less than 1K for the month). We happily paid it, but I thought it was a cheap move. Getting selected to Gov School is a big honor and it would have been nothing for them to cover the cost. Other privates, as we discovered later, DO cover the cost for their students, so made our school look bad. They are very into nickel and diming families for everything despite crazy tuition costs.

For public school students, it is free. (There’s a very small materials fee.) For private school students, the school has to pay half of the total cost so it’s possible they could require that be paid by the family. My guess is that it depends on the school.


That is interesting. I wonder why it wouldn’t be free for private school kids? We pay taxes and don’t even use the schools!
