Just seemed a little unfair considering the discrimination my friend would face often. I don’t think he viewed himself as “white,” and a lot of white people didn’t either.

Pretty much all races in Arlington, including for the school board, county board, etc. are determined by senior citizens. The bigger races are determined by senior citizens and young people who don’t have children. As much as we like to live in our own AEM-centric world and think APS parents have sway, they are not the majority in Arlington by any means. Quite the opposite.

+1000 thank you. I’ve been a Dem thus far in my life, sometimes begrudgingly, but boy do people need to get it together.

Judging by the crowd at my polling place this morning, the race will be determined by senior citizens. Not sure in whose favor that would be.

I too am a Parisa supporter but I hate what’s going on on AEM. Please remember these few people taking over the posts are not endorsed by Parisa and are certainly doing her no favors. I certainly understand why they have turned people off

For those of us on this thread, if you are (like me) a Democrat and anti-Trump generally, I think this experience should give us all pause about the assumptions we make and the language we use when discussing the opposition/Republicans. Everyone is upset here because we are all largely Dems and don't expect (or deserve) this kind of vitriol simply for choosing the less progressive of two Democratic candidates. But, many in my circle seem to think it's okay to dish this kind of stuff out so long as the target is not a fellow Dem but a relative, a neighbor, an acquaintance who votes Republican or even voted for Trump. Sorry for the Pollyanna-ish turn, but I kinda hope everyone will think about that, say, the next time you hear "the cruelty is the point" or similar said about people who fundamentally have nothing more than a political disagreement.
