I assume there are Iranian Americans who just call themselves "white"? I mean, she could pass.
I had an Iranian friend who told me technically Iranians/Persians are white. He said he couldn’t claim any other ethnicity on his college apps. Don’t know is it’s true, but could explain the “identify” versus “is” language.
Of course they are Caucasian. Part of Iran is in the Caucasus region.
