OP here: SV was my first boyfriend I met online. My last relationship that was long distance, we met in person a week after I graduated high school and his family was visiting my area for summer vacation. I am definitely scared off from online dating for a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG time.
You don't need to be scared. But try Match or a site that is geared towards your religious desire and stay local. Meet someone in RI. Have a coffee, if they seem normal, have a dinner.
Ask questions. What do they do, where do they work, what interests them.
Seek out a normal partner with a steady job. Higher education, lives in your area - meaning in your state and within 30 minutes drive so you can met, share time, get to know each other and make sure no red flags go of.
On line dating can open you to a lot of people you might not meet, but you have to do the hard work and weed through the loosers.
