Maryvale vs. NDP

I just don't see any way NDP wins this. Maybe they'll keep it closer than in the regular season, but I don't think they can stop them defensively. Even NDPs coach was quoted in the Baltimore Sun saying something to the effect of - "Maybe we'll get lucky" which doesn't scream confidence. Let's go with Maryvale - 6

McDonogh vs SPSG

This one will be more interesting. Playoff game + rivalry game = both sides should be out for blood. SPSG has been stringing together wins, but they have a scoring problem and McDonogh has the lowest goals allowed in the league. SPSG also turns the ball over a lot and takes poor shots - which a good defense will exploit. That said, SPSG does have the talent to keep it close if they play a clean game. Give me McDonogh -3

Let the dust settle from yesterday first, but I don’t see NDP & SPSG scoring more than 10 goals combined.

I don’t see any scenario where it’s not MV McD is finals.

I’ll take MV, NDP, SPSG, McD (spread is way too low) basically all favorites but SM.

Good call.

I think the only guarantee is MVP going to the finals. All the other matchups could go either way.

NDP vs ABS - This one is hard to predict, even though NDP beat them by 6 just last week. Since then NDP has come back down to earth with some crushing losses. But Spalding has clearly not been playing their best lacrosse. Do they get it together for the playoffs? Think I'll give the slight edge to NDP but am rooting for the underdog.

SPSG vs StM - A lot has changed since SPSG suffered a one goal loss to StM earlier in the season. SPSG has a top defender back, but lost one of their go-to midis to injury. At the same time, StM lost a significant piece of their offense to injury. I'm going to go with SPSG by 2.

McDonogh vs Glenelg - Glenelg just played McDonogh and lost by 7. Perhaps the recency of their last meeting will allow them to gameplay and, lord knows, they will win possession. Think McDonogh wins this game but by a smaller margin than the last time - let's say....4.

Anything can happen but for the McDonogh GCS game, the final score was 11-4 but the score was 10-1 with 5 minutes left. 7 goal final but GCS didn’t score for the first 20 minutes of the second half.

Disagree on MV getting better, they had full health early in the season. They have had some injuries but with depth. Hasn’t mattered much.

Agree to disagree - big wins means younger girls and girls lower on depth chart have had opportunities to play and gain confidence. Some players who were tentative earlier in the season are now firing on all cylinders.

SM will really try to slow pass down, which could take away from SPSG ability to win draws.

I think a 8-6 type game is expected. SM is physical so if refs allow it, it’s going to be their advantage.

Yes they are physical, and coach seems to encourage flopping as well. On the topic of refs, there have been rumors in the past about certain refs with SM. May have been the lady with short hair and visor. Going with goalie advantage: SM 6-5 in OT.

They all work all over the area so I really don’t buy that. Every team complains about the refs. Ask a completely objective observer and they will usually say the calls were even for both. Some refs definitely allow more aggressive play but I have never seen where they call things grossly one sided.

Philly and Florida refs … they do seem to favor the home schools but I am biased being from Maryland.

Out of the entire IAAM season, my DD only had one game that seemed poorly officiated or biased. To me, this seems incorrect.

In the one IAAM matchup that stood out to me, one team was clearly the better defensive team, but this included more aggressive play than the other team. Refs were calling closer to a middle school game than a college game, so the better defensive team was penalized for their superior play. It’s much better when the teams are more evenly matched with defensive talent and the refs let them play aggressively.
I’m not talking letting them swing near heads, but don’t hand out yellows for extending below the shoulders or swings nowhere near the head especially when you are 40+ feet away. I don’t have much to complain about shooting space and 3 seconds this year. The only coach I would not trust in regards to doing whatever he can to get on the refs side plays on Bestgate Rd.
