DP. My children are also biracial and the URM side of the family is MAGA (or at least Trump voters), largely due to religious beliefs.

Good lord. Them voting for the party that embraces and promotes racism and violence is the exact act that threatens their safety and denies them their basic humanity.
She’s probably MAGA too because of her cognitive dissonance. I have a MAGA family member with biracial girls who is more worried about my white boys. It’s crazy, but they can’t see reality.
Ma'am, that's your perception and opinion; it's not "reality." I know plenty of minority Trump voters- in fact it was a black man to urged me to consider Trump when I planned to vote for Hillary. You can't just dismiss people with different views and experiences as irrational.
Anyone who thinks Trump is qualified to be POTUS automatically qualifies as irrational. This isn't just a "different view" about tax policy. He PROMOTES racism, scapegoating using immigrants and minorities, political violence, violence against women, authoritarianism, not to mention constant lying and corruption. He fomented an insurrection against this country because he didn't like losing an election. He is trying to rewrite history about it. He is attacking all the fundamental principle that make our country great. He is batshit. Anyone who voted for him in 2020 and 2024 is certifiably batshit.
The U.S. Constitution states that the president must:
Be a natural-born citizen of the United States
Be at least 35 years old
Have been a resident of the United States for 14 years
Trump qualifies for all 3. You can argue competincies, but not qualifications. If racism, scapgoating, corruption, authoriarianism was a disqualifier more than half of the US presidents wouldnt be qualified either unless you're going to pretend the guilded age never happened.

Are you the white parent? As a biracial woman myself, trust me when I tell you, your children have a different racial experience than you. They feel and notice things that you do not, that you cannot. And a time will likely come where they inform you that they have absolutely experienced racism from your MAGA family. And they will spend lots of money on therapy coming to terms with the fact that their own parent cared more about keeping the peace with these people than protecting them.
PP said it was the URM side of the family who is MAGA. PP says it’s based on religious beliefs so you can guess which URM they are talking about. So no the MAGA side isn’t being racist, they are the URMs!
+1000
Just stop with the myth of MAGA is racist. Tons of BIPOC people voted for trump. Latinx people voted for trump. Even LGTBQIA++ people support trump.
Trump had more black voters this time than any republican in the last 30 years. This concept that he does not welcome or appeal to minorities is not supported by the data.
More of few is still not much. Most people of color vote against Republicans, just as they did for Trump. And the reason for that is the known racism that underlies their policies and is prevalent in their rhetoric. Anyone voting for this and pretending it has nothing to do with racism is a disingenuous liar.
But but but we were told by a previous poster that Republicans aren't racist at all! https://www.politico.com/news/2025/10/14/private-chat-among-young-gop-club-members-00592146
And we’ve been told repeatedly that the campus protesters are just advocating for peace in the ME, but Students for Justice in Palestine just tweeted “Death to all collaborators”.
Does that mean that all the keffiyeh kids are terrorists?
Let’s be consistent, shall we?
It starts from the top so start there . . . acknowledge the hateful, violent, racist, nasty sh-- that comes from trump (and others in MAGA and in his administration). No one on the right has done that yet and you have no credibility until you do.
“You”? I’m not a Trumper. Despise him.
But don’t despise those who voted for him.
That distinction is the crux of this thread.
I think the best path forward is to understand and win over enough Trump voters to win future elections. And I don’t believe that shunning will accomplish that.
Others here apparently disagree and feel that their unambiguous and uncompromising moral certitude, righteousness and condescension will magically make things better.
I disagree.

Holy shit, you're dumb.
Let’s hear your argument about how you would distinguish the situations and let the world decide….
Are you seriously asking the PP to spoonfeed you the differences between people who have actual positions of power within the Republican party and a widely-condemned group whose greatest accomplishments include vowing not to vote for Democrats and being vehemently antisemitic (hey, sounds like they'd fit right in with Trump's proud boys!)?
Do you seriously not understand the common principle at issue here? If not, my sincere sympathy.
Oh bless your heart. Both groups are reprehensible. One of the groups is comprised of members who famously boycotted the Democratic nominee for president. The other is literally comprised of the actual, real Republican Party. Do you seriously not see understand the difference here? If not, my sincere sympathy -- life must be really, really difficult for you.
You’ve missed the point and misunderstood the principle at issue in its entirety. Unfortunate.

DP but for starters, one is a student protest group and one is an affiliate of the Republican Party with ties to the current administration (including some people who have worked in government).
To be clear I don’t agree with the message “death to collaborators.” But it seems to be students in response to a particular Gazan death.
Whereas the text chat was ongoing for months using slurs over 250 times. These are the people age 18-40 in line to take over the Republican Party. And we haven’t heard any condemnation from the White House …

I know you mean well but this is a very good example of privilege. My children are biracial so no I will not have them around family members who lie and say Jan 6 was BLM and antifa or that the proud boys and unite the right rally are good things. You dont love me or my partner or children if you support politicians/polices/lies that threaten their safety and deny them basic humanity. This is not an intellectual exercise for many people. These are our lives.
DP. My children are also biracial and the URM side of the family is MAGA (or at least Trump voters), largely due to religious beliefs.
Never had anything said or done that threatens their safety or denied their basic humanity.
YMMV

And I feel reasonably strongly about my politics. But love for my family and my desire for my children to grow up near grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins is far stronger than anything else. Teach your kids that people have different values and different opinions, and that we don't slice out of our lives people who have different perspectives.
