I've seen this sentiment a lot and could keep going with quotes just like it from this thread and the other Gov thread. I posted the below in the other thread.

That is a very good point about the Democrats. The Republicans know their candidates have skeletons - in fact, they look for people that have exploitable flaws.

If the Democrats were a stronger party, they would more actively vet their candidates. I mean, how hard is it to look at see that the guy has a record from driving over 100 mph while he was in office?

I don’t think she’s lying - I think she’s smart and realizes how little power the one-term VA governor has and she doesn’t want to promise stuff she can’t deliver. To be honest, her biggest selling point is Sears’ histrionics, outbursts, and behavior. I am so tired of hearing Sears rant about what’s inside someone else’s underwear and when she very publicly said “so what” about the federal firings it was never close. Spanberger is at least smart enough to understand the financial basis for her state’s historically good finances. Jones is a toad, I wish they would actually research people before putting them on the ballot, but we may need a VA AG who will take on the federal government and I don’t trust any Republican in 2025.

Because she would not share her own opinion--she is afraid of losing voters and, somehow, thinks it better not to take a stand.

I could never vote for Jones--but I was not planning on voting for him. However, if she had said that, while what he said is abhorrent, she was still supporting him on policy. She would have possibly retained more of her Independent voters. She likely retains some, in any case. She won't lose Dem voters.

The trans issue should have been easier. But, I suspect money is involved here.

The Commonwealth already allocates $950 million a year to its municipalities to offset personal property taxes (that’s the leftover from Gilmore, the “relief”). The rest of the tax you are billed is with that in mind. Each municipality collects it and uses it for their own budget.

He did run on it, and then they couldn't go through with it. Hence, we still pay a personal property tax in Virginia.

actually the Dem controlled legislature refused to go through with it. But Gilmore won on that issue and he wanted to see it fully implemented

Because Dems care about balancing the budget.
