I don't like it either; but at some point, we need to cut back or we are going to run out of money. Can't keep going with all the debt we keep incurring.
Then fire wasteful DoGE and TAX THE RICH!
DOE and Defense are bloated.
Tax the rich.
YUP!

Except Boomers aren’t the problem so much as GenZ males. And abolishing SS fits right in with that world view.
There are a lot of people, across generations, who either are not paying attention to what is going on right now or simply don’t care because it hasn’t personally affected them yet.

I agree. I don’t think they will. They may tinker with the idea, but at the end of the day? Nope. They’re so erratic and incompetent that they don’t even know themselves what they’re going to do.

My guess it they will start a "freeze" social security disability payments while they conduct a "review" to determine which ones are "fraud." That would be in line with how they've done the USAID and NIH cuts. They will go after SSDI first because that's not as politically popular.
SSDI is retirement for a huge percentage of blue collar workers. It's going to become real popular pretty quickly once it stops
That shouldn't be the case. Those benefits should be carefully scrutinized.
They are. But, if you are 60 with a high school education or less and have spent 40+ years doing manual labor, your body has probably broken down enough that you legit can’t stand and walk for 6 hours and lift and carry 20 pound s at least 3 hours a day and Qp pounds another 3, with various bending, stooping, etc.
If you have no transferrable skills or skilled work, it’s progressively y easier to qualify at 55 and 60. You’re a DMV lawyer who has more education, some skills and can sit at a desk with stretch breaks? That’s not so easy. But hardcore manual labor over decades takes a toll.

What percent? Do you have verification on this? They already review SSDI recipients for fraud. You can’t freeze benefits for workers seriously injured on the job, what is wrong with you?
Trump wants to get rid of OSHA and THAT would actually cause a huge percentage of workers permanently injured.
DP here, a lot of people definitely end up on SSDI but in my view so what? Some of those jobs tear of people’s bodies. So what if they have to stop working and collect disability at 55? But then I’m a liberal democrat that wants what’s best for everyone.
Also, a lot of people with major mental illnesses end up on SSDI. Better not to have them living on the streets, in my view.

If you could make a point of only cutting benefits for people who voted for this monster, fine. But you can't so I don't support maximum pain for all the people who aren't rich. Because that's what would end up happening.
