Yet their Democrat politicians slashed the budget, so the entire fire department has been grossly under funded and understaffed for years and years.
Sheer evil. Shame on Democrats.
Shame on Trump and MAGA morons for politicizing this disaster. Every time we think you can't go lower, you do. You are truly disgusting people. Right now the focus should be on helping people. Accounting comes after. And no one will trust you guys to do anything in an honest way. You are incapable of honesty.
I don't think the 100,000 people asking for Bass' resignation are mostly Republicans. They are Californians who want HONEST answers.
That is different than the idiot MAGAs on DCUM with their blanket accusations that all Dems are evil.
DP. Oh, the irony.

Agree. As a democrat who grew up in North Carolina, the country really came together in empathy for those who lost homes and businesses. It's very sad to know that apparently the only real Americans are those who live in red states. Those in blue states don't merit our compassion.
Posters have been endlessly posting that California has the fifth highest GDP in the world which begs the question why were state and local budges so stretched that they could not accommodate battling the uptick in crime as well as the uptick in fires. It's like the rich uncle at Thanksgiving tries to borrow $2,000 from the relative who was hurt in an industrial accident and lives on SSI.
Watch videos of the winds and the fires. It isn’t a money issue or a water issue or a truck issue or any of the other bullshit you deplorables keep saying. It’s a series of crazy out of control wildfires spreading rapidly over a huge area. And guess what? Unlike all the MAGA states, California is not begging the federal government to pay for everything. California is just saying that if you don’t give a shit about California just STFU and stop telling lies that misinformation the public and undermine the response and relief.
The I guess California won't mind when GOP Senators make sure any fire aid to California will have strings attached forcing the state to improve its resilience.
As long as they do the same thing for aid to all the red states after hurricanes, etc.
It's actually a good excuse to redistribute the population in SoCal before "the Big One" hits. Why rebuild and implement mitigation measures on land that's already prone to have annual occurrences of drought and wildfires, knowing full well that an earthquake will destroy everything again?

Answer: The State of California has to carry the dead weight in so many red states who are “net takers” from our treasury.
So yes, California kicks your state’s ass from one side of the room to the other in every conceivable economic measure, but doesn’t enjoy the benefit of calling upon that war chest in an emergency - ‘cuz they already wasted it on you.
You’re welcome, deadbeat.
Huh?
Individuals/companies pay federal tax. We all pay the same no matter what state you live in. States tax at different rates.
We get it - you don’t understand how California can be both (1) the 5th largest economy in the world, and (2) lacking in sufficient funding because that 5th largest economy in the world is burdened by having to cover the shortfall of red states who cannot carry their own water.
Not going to waste additional time explaining the balance of tax payments …
Yeah. Show me in the California budget where they pay federal taxes.
Income, business and excise taxes. Selling land and park admission sure. The states do not write checks to the federal government. How did you get out of 6th grade? Do your parents know you are still awake?

Slow day reading Twitter?![]()
You are going to lose your RWNJ mind when Newsom runs against Trump in 2028 and wins!
More likely Newsome will lose his pretty boy mind when AOC wins the Dem primary and picks someone with brains to balance the ticket. Newsome won't be it.
The very last thing the pathetic Dem party needs to do is to lean on a politician from New York or California for their 2028 nominee. It would be as stupid as the GOP nominating a politician from Texas or Florida in 2028. This being said; anything can happen with these two awful parties and their moronic supporters.
Agree. Neither Californian politicians nor NYC politicians have any idea how to talk to most US citizens.
Crappy politicians aren't exclusive to New York and California. You can find selfish and worthless Dem and GOP politicians in every state. They are everywhere and stupid people keep voting for them.
No, it's a cultural thing. Both Californian and New Yorker politicians come across as arrogant to people from other areas of the country.

California can burn down to cinders and still be richer than say, Mississippi, Arkansas,... it does not need you to worry with your 2 brain cells.

One massive issue brought up by the chief is that the number of firefighters has not increased in decades, but the incident calls have gone up by 50%. However, it’s long been known that the LA FD union strongly gate keeps who can become a firefighter. Even when I was growing up and still to this day, it’s widely known that you need to have a nepotism connection to get into the firefighting Academy. They also gatekeeper who can get into the training programs like EMT or volunteer search and rescue for your local community, that’s a precursor to getting into the firefighting Academy. The union likes the labor shortage because it means virtually unlimited overtime dollars. So I take heed with these complaints, has been strongly acting like a cartel in terms of its labor. Another issue is that looks like it. It’s heavily white and many of firefighters don’t even live in the state of California. Fly in from places like Idaho and Nevada to do their shifts and then they leave with their paychecks. If you’re familiar with the show, southern charm of the characters, husband is a California firefighter who lives in South Carolina! He flies in every other week to do his shifts up in Sacramento and then flies home. This is the root of the labor issue with the Los Angeles fire department and other fire departments in California.
Californian here who can confirm. This is accurate.
What's the problem with the fire fighters living in another state? It seems like a practical way to manage with a small salary (it looks like the top compensation is $124k per year which is peanuts for that area).
$124k plus OT means they are making much more than that, think $200K plus.
From the firefighters I know in between the rare periods of action there is a lot of sleeping, watching movies, eating chili and general naughtiness in the firehouse.
No one is flying in from Idaho for a measly $124K a year, they have fires in Idaho, It’s the OT and the perks.
In my line of work we call this a boondoggle.
I don't really see the issue with that. In the "rare action periods" they work, they save lives and homes, at the risk of their own. So if firefighting is so appealing and lucrative, we can all become firefighters and enjoy the high salaries and snacks and movies. You go first, because I'm not doing it!
