No one has answered the question. Your choices are Trump, Pence, Romney, Ryan, McCain, Palin, Bush, and Cheney. And name a specific debate, not just that you like McCain or Romney better.
Reagan was certainly a better debater than Vance. Trump has his sound bites, and an ability to dominate a stage, but lacks depth, interrupts constantly (his opponent as well as himself), Pence was calm and disciplined, good at staying on message but was often evasive and passive. Romney was polished, articulate and knowledgeable but stiff, Paul Ryan was good on policy and economic issues and a clear communicator but came across as wonky and lacking charisma. McCain was experienced, straightforward but struggled to make emotional connections with the audience. Sarah Palin was charismatic but was out to lunch on policy issues. George W. Bush was folksy and relatable but struggled with policy. Dick Cheney had a commanding presence, had some depth of policy knowledge and was an effective debater, but came across as aggressive and too polarizing.
To my memory, Dick Cheney was probably the best of above. I remember sitting with my MIL during that one. She was a republican in those days but has voted for Ds in every election since Obama (including today —and she’s in Georgia, so she’s a good get). She commented that she wished she could vote for Cheney bc he seemed so smart and reasonable. I was like, “oh, dear.” But also I could see what she was seeing based on his performance.

He was definitely a master at dodging every question without giving a real answer. I wouldn't say anything more than that.
DP. Rhetorically he won, in that he had an answer to every question and he answered smoothly and without stumbles. But it’s interesting that the debate didn’t move the needle more with regular voters, even undecided ones. In focus groups a lot of them commented he seemed too slick, too much the practiced politician. So how are we measuring his performance? Rhetorical smoothness or actually changing voter behavior? These are two different things. I agree he won the first category.

The Republicans are poised to win the Senate, and take over the House. The SCOTUS has already said that presidential acts cannot by definition, be illegal. I'd like to ask the PP what checks and balances they're talking about.
I meant potentially keep the house. They already have a slim majority.
