My DC from a private with uw3.8 (3.7+ at ED/EA round) got waitlisted at 3 T25s and got in a couple of T15 LACs. Good EC, medium rigor, Econ focus, full pay. Eventually off 2 waitlists and in a T20.

3.8 is that gray area for the unhooked at private schools, when combined with 1500+ SAT, especially boys. Some might get into a T-25 ED, some might luck out in RD. I have a boy who fit the same profile at a small private. Lucked out at a T-20 to T-30, humanities major.

My unhooked DC had 3.9uw, high 1500s, only got into nyu for business. Maybe yours will get into higher ranking ones since its humanities. Highly ranked pvt school, max rigor.

It depends on the school. At many privates Chicago will take down to a 3.6 or even lower. it can be a very hard admit from some schools and an exceedingly easy one for smart kids without top grades who ED from others. This dichotomy comes up continually on DCUM.
At our private, 3.6-3.7 gets
into U Chicago ED. They never take anyone from RD and very few with 3.8+ used their ED there.
