My DH (PhD in a stem field) makes about that and I don’t expect his salary to go up much. I make a bit less l, but a similar amount. We have no problem paying for things and still saving. Is more money nice? Sure! But I wouldn’t turn my back on a man I loved earning that salary in hopes of more.

Are you good at math? $160k at 2% drawdown = $8 million portfolio. Esp for an individual that is high net worth, even by DC urban mom standards.

At 55 the question really isn't about income. It is about assets and liabilities. A person could be retired at 55 with little debt and assets of $3 million. All different types of combinations. I think many people can be classified as spenders or savers. Savers will have robust net worth and spenders many times will have high incomes. Money is a big issue in relationships, if you aren't on the same page, it could be difficult. Just like child rearing.
