My kids were in ES about 8, and 9 and out playing at school doing a sport.
One of the kids on the team just laid down and died. At first they thought fainted but no, dead. 8 years old. Everyone tried to downplay it to spare the children. We parents were so sad.

My aunt (married to my mom's brother) had a brother who drowned in a pile of mulch. It was damp and he fell in and the dampness made it thick so he couldn't get out. Very sad.

Yes, pp, thanks for mentioning this. I was in Asia at the time and got a call about the memorial service, which I could not make. Those who went told me it was one of the saddest things they had ever been a part of. She had a relative (mother or aunt?) who also worked for the same small company (a tech start-up) as secretary to the president. There were a huge number of us in our 20s and early 30s who hung as a pack. I hope her beloved moved on with his life. It’s incredible that it’s been almost 30 years.

Not the PP but a friend of mine died at 36 from a fall in his home. Wife was out of town and returned to find him dead.

I worked with a guy who fell while rollerblading and died.

A classmate slipped in the shower and drowned.

Another classmate fell off a cliff while hiking.

One cousin died in a snowmobile race crash and another had a tree fall on him in a logging accident.

Elementary school classmate was out walking with her friends on a cold day, may have been a snow day or after a recent storm. She fell backwards. Her friends thought she was joking when she didn’t get up (apparently she was known for being a joker) and walked away. Eventually they circled back when she didn’t catch up and they found her still on the ground, dead.

I vaguely recall people saying an aneurysm was involved, or she just slipped on ice and fell at the exact bad angle. But it was that quick - a healthy 8-year old just fell and died.

Not someone I know but all those kids killed in highway crossfires. Two instances I am aware of where I live, the same highway, some bad places along that highway so gangs have shootouts.
My ex who is known for his eccentricity moved to a town along this highway so I had to drive our kid to see him… luckily he moved closer to us but I still hate this highway. Terrible drivers too. But I digress.

That's why I drive an SUV. If you are in a sedan you are taking them out at the legs and they come up over the hood. SUV hits them center body mass.

I know of a woman (high end architect in NYC) who was walking down the street and a piece of masonry fell off of a building and struck her in the head killing her instantly.
