Let's "unconfuse" you. It started out in very UNpopulated, rural areas where it could have easily been downed at no risk. It them traveled all the way across the US to populated, highly secure areas where it scooped up intelligence and communication and transmitted that back to China.
At best, Biden's decision NOT to down it shows he is risk-averse and will let our enemies walk all over us. At worse, his decision could mean he is somehow compromised. Neither is good.

I am a conservative and have a real problem with the US response. This will surely escalate and China has nuclear weapons like Putin does. We have already upset Putin. I would feel better if we issued a formal apology, publicly punished the military personnel responsible for this attack and compensate China for their lose.

Biden tried to keep the presence of the balloon secret. When that didn't work, they tried to say they couldn't shoot it down due to safety reasons and that debris would cover 400 square miles. That was BS.
They finally shot it down - in an area where it seems not much can be recovered.
Glad it is down. Should have been down days ago. This is another foreign policy failure by Biden. Not Republicans.

^This 100% correct. Let’s hope next time we don’t have to wait for citizens on the ground to call out illegal Chinese surveillance operations in the sky. This administration seems to have forgotten its promise for transparency. God only knows how many times other surveillance balloons have gone unreported by our government. Let’s also hope that this administration isn’t in any way colluding with the Chinese Communists. You think?
