He comes across as such a mean, self-centered, and shallow guy. He's also not very bright, made it totally clear he dumped Leslie because of her finances and went with Theresa because he thought she was flush (though he obviously didn't love her). He just gives giant ick.
Well the funny thing is that they both totally misrepresented themselves to each other. Whatever money he had came from his wife's decades of hard work, her social security, and probably a life insurance policy. He was underemployed or unemployed for much of their marriage. Theresa thought he was a successful, sophisticated guy. Well, the joke was on her. And on him, since he assumed she was some kind of financial impresario when she went to work not all that long ago because her family needed health insurance. Her husband had been ill for a long time and does not seem to have been very financially successful. We know from his ex GF's account he is tight with money, and did not want to support Theresa yet was outraged she was relucant to quit her job in light of this. It's hard to see how he comes across well in any of this.
Theresa was a sheltered suburban mom who married very young. She bought into a fairy tale and was sadly disappointed when she realized he wasn't even a nice guy behind the facade. She seems unwilling to spill the tea but did allude to his having said many hurtful things to her. I believe it, and suspect that's why he initially slept on the couch.

Even though I feel for Debbie, I'd rather not hear more about her history of relationship problems. I'd prefer Cindy, if she's not Mel's pick, or even Ellen or Leslie from the previous season.

Mel still lives with his 18 yr old son and 20 yr old son. No exactly the kind of arrangement the golden women are looking for. I know I wouldn't want to deal with 20 yr old boys when I'm 65 -- especially if they aren't mine.
And she thinks Mel wasn't into her b/c she isn't into football as much as Cindy and Peg.
Mel is very superficial (no shock). And didn't even give the vibes that he was really looking to connect. Mel is going to find Cindy's emotional attachment to be too much to carry. Peg is the fun-girlfriend. That's his speed.

This all makes sense, except the kids. They’re in college, not at all weird they live at home when not at school. That comment was because Debbie doesn’t have kids imo. That’s a big disconnect, too. The others get that blending families is part of the deal.
Also, easy to diss him when you’re a little bitter about not being chosen. I like her, but her relationship history is a red flag. I posted above he doesn’t have the eq or interest in dealing with her baggage.
