There is. Can’t stand the constant selling. But I’ll admit that part of me has some sympathy for the fact that Brandon probably financially ruined them. The ‘in the know’ folks who have pointed to a gambling problem (along with the cheating and drinking) would explain why the constant shilling ratcheted way up right around the time of the divorce. Multiple kids in college and a couple more to send I bet those bills were calling… I still think it’s gross. But in the panic of the moment I bet some financial agreements were made…

There’s some irony in all of these misogynistic posts that use the Bible and Christian teachings to paint Jen and Brandon as foils to each other. He’s not pure and lost while she’s evil and conniving. People like this, and there are tons in church communities, are why Jen and other deconstruction teachers exist. These commenters, and those like them, are fueling Jen’s fire. They’re why she is still relevant in any way.

At first there was a full force rejection of Brandon and an alignment with Jen after the “bombshell.” But it appears all but Sidney have reconciled with their dad now. His motorcycle club also kept him close throughout.

It takes a lot of skill to build a church from the ground up in a new city to several hundred members at its height. Brandon was at the head of that project so I don’t think it’s honest to say he has no skills. There is both leadership(perhaps flawed) and organizational aptitude Brandon has shown over and over. He got the legacy collective up and running. Sure we strongly suspect inappropriate use of funds at his discretion but it was built on his watch.
Whoever hired him to sell the Texas ranches chose well if you want a guy who tries real hard to look Texan and has a natural ability to win people over to a vision. He is manly and at ease with himself, it’s a nice combo for selling luxury ranches.

I’m not pro or con Brandon or Jen but I will honor they are builders. They’ve created a whole lot of something out of nothing over the years. I grieve at how broken and lost they’ve become but I still hold out hope they will have an encounter with the living God that rights their many wrongs. Their story is still being written.

Are we so polarized and tribal today that THIS is the response to a clearly distasteful joke? “Must be you Christians again!”?

I know self-professing Christians who are terrible people. Selfish, materialistic, greedy, judgmental. I also know self-professing Christians who are some of the kindest, most giving, LOVING people you would ever meet. Should they immediately be judged and discarded as fake because of the former?

I’ve been to a “mega” church where the pastor and his wife acted like the Prom King & Queen and carefully selected only the best looking and wealthy parishioners as their court. Sermons were meant to make us all “feel good” and the entire church was ran like an entertainment business. I’ve also been to a small local church that welcomes everyone. They help people pay their bills, have a monthly food giveaway, and call every Sunday morning our “Bible Study” time. Should people disillusioned by the first church throw away religion all together? Is the Bible really not the Word of God because some people use it as a prop?

Sorry for the rant, but this “let’s all deconstruct because someone somewhere did something bad” is so sad to me. If you had a terrible experience with Christians or with a specific church, I’m so very sorry. Throwing away all of your faith can’t be the right answer.

I’m pretty sure the odd post about a little people fetish was written by someone with a sense of humor like Caleb Hatmaker. There’s been a young male troll popping up here and there who is connected to the Hatmakers. Sometimes he even makes me laugh cause it’s so off the wall and ridiculous, but not the fetish comment. Truth is we don’t know how deep and dark Brandon’s addictions ran. We do know it was bad enough to bust up a 20+ marriage and traumatize their 5 mostly grown kids.

You bought into the vision because it was a good and noble one - a church where all would feel welcomed.

The difference is that Brandon isn’t swindling people. No one is calling him a saint, but it’s hard to have the disdain for him that people do for Jen when she’s the one actively deceiving others.

I was the person who said I knew it was fact - I only meant the cheating part. That is a fact. The Who what when why where how long, I don’t know.

The four years part seems to be outside speculation and is unlikely imo.
