This explanation makes no sense. The world uses 100 million barrels per day. About 20 million barrels passed through the Strait per day pre-war. This would represent a relative trickle.

Trump and the US military just attacked Iran’s water facilities bombing two water reservoirs. This could kill millions in three days.
Iran is likely to respond by attacking Israel’s and gulf states’ desalinization plants. Israel gets 80% of its drinking water from desalination. Many of the gulf states are about the same.
Once the desalination plants are destroyed it’s about 2-3 days before people died of dehydration. There is no way to evacuate that many people, bring in water or rebuild the plants in 3 days.

That’s not true. Ottoman Egypt invited Britain to help them fight Napoleon in the 1800s. After that, Britain and Ottomans shared control of Egypt and Britain built the Suez Canal there. The Suez Canal was their main concern for trade.
