What does this sentence mean in plain English?

The park looks just awful with the trees gone. At a time when there are demonstrations in the streets about climate change and when DC basically leads the nation in childhood asthma cases, someone (or several people) in the DC government should be fired for this outrage. And responsibility lies with Council Member “Clear Cut” Cheh.

The whole Hearst Park renovation was driven by people on Springland Lane who have been dealing with horrible stormwater run off for years. It is the principle driver for the city to invest money and redo the park. The landscaping around the hills and slopes to help capture the stormwater was the lead and core value, with the rest of the programming, including the pool, that followed.

All of the information is on the website. Go look at it. Talk to your neighbors on Springland Lane and ask to the picture of the stormwater damage they have been dealing with.

Complaining about it now is such a red herring. It is like you have been paying no attention to this issue for the past decade.

Mary Cheh heard the issues that these people had and worked with DPR to solve a problem. And yes, she also listened to constituents who have been complaining since Jim Nathanson was Councilmember, about the lack of an outdoor pool in the Ward.

So thank you Mary Cheh for helping address the environmental issues as well as getting an outdoor pool for her constituents.
