There are almost 34,000 NYPD officers in NYC. That’s almost 10,000 more than all of the law enforcement officers in Virginia. Ask yourself, if your boss said that about you, would you look for another job?

Recruiting by the NYPD is up so far in 2025, but it’s just keeping up with retirements. At 34,000 officers the NYPD is still understaffed by 5,000 officers. If a Mamdani Administration accelerates retirements and resignations, while depressing the recruiting rate, public safety will suffer and crime in NYC will rise rapidly.

Bet it will look pretty much the same as it does now. My brother is a police officer and people don’t typically leave because of a mayor if they are otherwise happy. Recruiting for most police departments has been down for years now. I don’t think you can blame mandami for that. As the economy gets worse it will go back up as people seek stable jobs and financial security.

No. They have a vested interest in protecting the evidentiary integrity of specific body camera footage. They also have established protocols to protect the privacy and sensitive personal information of citizens. I’m unaware of body camera footage that includes private information of victims being released by the NYPD.
