The Texas map is reinstated. The activist judges take yet another loss at the Supreme Court.

“The Supreme Court will allow Texas to use a congressional map that adds as many as five Republican seats for next year’s midterm elections, boosting the GOP’s chances of retaining control of the House of Representatives.
The justices on Thursday set aside a lower court decision from last month that had blocked the new electoral lines and ordered Texas to use its existing ones. The lower court found that the new map was an unconstitutional racial gerrymander, but the Supreme Court said that decision appeared to be wrong.”

The practical effect is that you can gerrymander in favor of race for minorities but you can't undo it because it is… based on race.

Yeah they drew this map based on assumptions that are unlikely to hold. They may end up regretting this severely.

It really does put Texas in play. The Latino vote going somewhat red in the last election should have been something Republicans could capitalize on. It was a reaction to some excesses among progressives elected in 2020. But Republicans have doubled down on their intrinsic racism and incompetence. And Latino voters are breaking heavily toward Democrats.

Republican assumptions were wrong. And they ended up creating more pick up opportunities for Democrats. And if Republicans end up choosing Paxton, that gives Democrats a Senate seat too.

Everything is shaping up very nicely for Democrats next November
