OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska said Thursday that he believes he had COVID-19 late last year, developing coronavirus symptoms and prompting him to wait at least three months to get vaccinated.
Bacon said in a statement that he was exposed to an infected person and experienced symptoms, but never got tested. He said he’s expected to get a vaccine shot on Friday, and encouraged others to get one as well.

This is the culture that has been playing out in a lot of the Red States - people come down with mysterious symptoms that are exactly like COVID, but don't get themselves tested. They only get tested once the symptoms are bad enough that it requires a hospital visit.
I honestly think this is why a lot of the positive numbers in places like TX and FL are inexplicitly low, even as cases rise in other parts of the country. They have fostered a culture of "don't ask, don't tell." And those who are positive don't want to be excluded from socialization.
It's wild.
