My DH’s (Fed) work trip overseas was finally cancelled. He was supposed to leave Monday. We are traveling for Spring Break, but not flying. I’m not concerned about getting sick. I am concerned about getting stuck somewhere, disruptions to air travel, ... Driving just makes more sense.

That said, pandemics aside those indoor water parks are always a little gross haha.

Wouldn't chlorine kill it?

Travelling may not be the best idea, but I'm dreading telling my kids that we're not going to go on our trip, but instead we are doing nothing at home. And if we do decide to go out locally, well then, why the hell did we not just go ahead with our travel plans? Ugh, my kids have a two-week spring break coming up. What am I supposed to do with them?

Spend time with them?

I don't see what the problem is...you obviously already have the time off.

Yes, but spend time where? In the house and not leaving? Or going out and about to kids play areas, museums, shows -- you know, public places with lots of people? I think kids would get a little stir crazy doing nothing at home but if going out and about how is that any safer than traveling?

Hiking in Great Falls or even exploring the Natural History Museum is a lot less claustrophobic and crowd-driven than say...being in Harry Potter World with shoulder-to-shoulder crowds.

Going to a movie midday and the theater is likely to be 85% empty. Go to Miami beach on spring break and your beach blanket is touching the next family's over and their toddler is crawling in your lap.

Very different scenarios.

DP but this is reason I’m not canceling our domestic (driving) trip. I don’t see a difference right now between leaving my house here during spring break and leaving the house where we are going on spring break.

Am I the only one who thinks a school quarantine and low airfares would mean a last minute trip to Florida?

Unless you or someone in your immediate family has a heart condition, kidney disease, or advanced age, I'd be much more concerned about bed bugs at GWL than the corona virus.

My college-aged kid isn’t even coming home for the ibe-week break. It’s just not worth it especially younger brother is already sick at home and on a z-pak. Instead she’s focusing on writing papers and putting in internship applications for the summer

I'm torn on cancelling our trip, but I'm not at all worried about my kids if we cancel. They know it is a possiblity. They know we don't want to cancel and will only do so if we feel its for the best. And I am a SAHM, so I'm used to having them all summer, a week or two is nothing.

[quote=Anonymous]Is this true about UVA? If so, would bet other schools will be doing the same.
. Definitely true. Dean Patricia Lampkin sent out the email last night urging students not to travel overseas or to other areas with high numbers of cases per CDC guidelines and she linked to maps provided by CDC. Of course all she can do is urge. The students will do whatever they want.
