STA used to strong very competitive teams in the mid to late 90s through the mid 2000's. Malcom Lester was a hell of a coach and STA was not an easy contest for anyone in the league during that era. During this same time, STA routinely pumped out kids to the Ivy League, NESCAC and other top schools.

It can be done and be done the RIGHT WAY under a headmaster and board who values having a strong athletic program.

From an outsider (my son graduated from an IAC school a number of years ago) it appears STA is trying to make some institutional adjustments and support having a stronger athletic program.

Prep family here. There is no reason why STA should not be competitive with the other IAC schools year in and year out. First, they have a longer lacrosse history than Prep (think Jesse Hubbard). Second, lacrosse players are often very good students so STA doesn’t necessarily have to lower the academic bar. Third, STA had a lot to offer a prospective student off the playing fields (academics, college placement and strong alumni network). Fourth, STA does offer excellent athletic facilities. Fifth, lacrosse families are natural constituencies for STA on many levels. Sixth, STA has all the resources to offer a prospective lacrosse student-athlete. Finally, it is good for the IAC for STA to have a strong lacrosse program (much more so than Bullis have strong lacrosse program).

This is where you are wrong. Prep’s academics are excellent and similar to STA’s. STA folks hate to hear this and will never admit it, always saying how far superior their academics are. It’s really their only strength so they have to hold on to it and believe it with all their might. It’s part of the reason why they always bring up academics when they loose a game. It’s also exaggerated statements from parents and students or average students who are struggling. Do they have the edge academically sure, but are they in another league or far superior, absolutely not. As pp said, also know boys who picked Prep over STA because it is more well rounded and has better athletics and strong academics, among other things.

Are you serious? Have you ever heard of Landon? In the IAC and far more obsessed with athletics.
