Men and women do that. Domestic situations are always sad, but mentally ill women aren't violent towards strangers in the way that men are. They don't shoot up schools or movie theaters or concerts or attack men (or women) out for a jog. Why?

It's hard to pass judgement on how the restaurant patrons reacted if you've never been in a similar situation. It must have been very scary for a bleeding woman to run in like that.

They could have thought it's a terrorist attack. The correct response is to run . These knifings are common in Europe. This is why you want as many military, police, fire fighters etc as possible living in the city. Incentive it. They are trained to run towards danger.

They all need help and possibly societal separation. Their family's hands are often tied (which is why so many DO end up homeless). The mayor/council need a task force on this and to offer legislative solutions.
