My husband is an engineer and he said even ND’s engineering majors are specifically groomed to be leaders/upper managers, not typical grinds.

I am Catholic and send my kids to a Catholic school. I also was on our hiring committee for years. Chicago blows ND out of the water. ND is a bro school.
Maybe it depends on the industry. People keep talking about how the academics at Chicago are sooo much better. And maybe they are. But when I'm hiring someone, I'm not hiring them solely on academics. That's why the 4.0 kid doesn't always get hired over the 3.5 kid. Yes, academics play a role, but so too does emotional intelligence. Can they work as a team? Can I trust them to do well with our clients (e.g. be personable, not awkward, etc.)? Are they good at building relationships with others? And sorry, but there is a large contingent of UChicago kids for whom that is just not true.

Chicago has a fine reputation. I just don’t understand the notion that a for-profit magazine is the arbiter of what the best colleges are.
You're one of the Catholics boosting for Notre Dame, right? Seriously, the answer for any guidance counselor is Chicago. Just go and compare GPA and test score to get in. This is not brain surgery.
Why is the assumption that the booster is Catholic? I'll tell you why...you have an issue with Catholics.
Oh FFS. I’m Catholic. ND is an excellent education. On par with Georgetown. But Chicago is a different league. If you are trying to impress the 60 year olds in your neighborhood, go ND. If you are trying to impress grad schools and employers, choose Chicago.
Not an alum of either school. No kid at either school.
There is no meaningful difference in the way employers and grad schools view UChicago and Notre Dame and anyone who tries to suggest there is is very off base.
My husband’s top consulting firm hires lots of kids from ND...never heard much about Chicago. They like the the excellent academics with a focus on service in the community.

June Cleaver here. My dear husband acknowledges that U of Chicago is an amazing school. They just prefer to hire people out of Notre Dame for numerous reasons outlined in my prior post. This is not a competition. Just saying both ND and Chicago are great schools, but very different student body. Both have different strengths.
I attended both, and yes, they are different. Very different. Which is the best? Just both very different but the academics at UChicago have an edge, just like the athletics/public service at ND. Both great schools though. I'm a happy alum.
