Harry and Meghan's home renovations cost £2.4m in taxpayer funds
The estate is the Royal Family's commercial property arm and owns land and buildings in prime central London locations and across the UK. It is managed by an independent organisation, with any profit paid to the Treasury for the benefit of all UK taxpayers.
The royal accounts said the renovation of Frogmore Cottage was paid out of the Sovereign Grant and involved the "reconfiguration and full refurbishment of five residential units in poor condition to create the official residence for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Good for them. They've renovated units that were in poor condition to become units in good condition.
Seriously A+ on getting it done under the budget too.
so kind of them to save the taxpayers' money

Now, for the first time, we know the cost of that transformation: at least £2.4 million ($3.05 million).
The figure was revealed today as part of the report on the Sovereign Grant, funds the Queen receives from the British Government to support her official duties and maintain occupied royal palaces. The royal household's annual financial statement is made public after the end of the UK's fiscal year in March. While £2.4 million of structural work on Frogmore was paid for with the public funds, Harry and Meghan paid for their own furniture and interior decoration.
I know, seriously.
You know what I like about them releases the annual expenses of the of the royal family? It shows that the tabloids are full of sh*t.
And if you think accountants can't paint a rosy picture and move some pots of monies around, you've missed the whole point.
Meghan cannot accept gifts. There is no way her Givenchy wardrobe cost only 89,000 pounds....so......? Clearly the numbers are pretty soft.

DH upgraded my $25k yellow diamond engagement ring to a $40k yellow diamond ring after I had our second child. His mother and sisters nearly died of envy and went around bashing me as materialistic. You sound like them. In reality, upgrading was DH’s idea and he bought the new ring without even telling me. Some of you women are so unhappy when other women have anything nice.
You're worth more now that you birthed 2 children for him?
lol
not quite twice as better as her pre-child self - but close to it . . .
I'd rather use the money toward college, but I'm sure PP will come back with - "We already have college pre-paid b/c my husband makes LOADS of money."
ha!
PP here. Lol. We already have large college funds for our kids because we BOTH make a lot of money. I’m a well educated professional and still working. Imagine that. Women work nowadays.
That's great.
But do you know what's even better? the fact that you proved my point
thanks - And I work, too. So yes, I understand that "we've come a long way, baby."

Frogmore Cottage was due to be renovated even without the Sussexes living there, and was budgeted. The amount spent is lower than budgeted, which is great. It's also substantially less than what was spent for the Cambridges' homes - 4m pounds for KP and 10m for Anmer.

To the PP - you had a $25K e-ring and your husband bought you a $40K one? I mean, must be nice to be rich? Just because it was your husband's idea doesn't mean it isn't straight up materialism.
Did you have it evaluated? Is it real? Maybe the upgrade was from real to fake? Have heard this happening.
