BS. I chose W-L after having gone to a similarity diverse (but good academically) HS filled with kids of different races and SES backgrounds. I bought a house before my kids started Kindergartem zoned specifically for W-L, as well as another diverse N Arlington elementary school.

My kids walk to elementary and we planned to have them walk to WL in coming years. We are 0.97 miles through neighborhoods to W-L, but our planning unit (a chunk out of the middle of a cohesive neighborhood) is under consideration for a move to Yorktown. The distance ranges from 1.0-1.6 miles.

If I were racist, I'd be ecstatic instead of upset.
We are in the same boat as you. Don't want to possibly move to yorktown. But the more honest quwstion us how would you feel about moving to wakefield. Also you also showed support that you want contiguity, efficiency and alignment.

Wait. Hold on just a minute there! Are you telling me that the south side of Arlington has a lot of poor people?!?! Gosh, thank goodness your spouse checked into this. You guys have just blown my mind!

Whatever. He was just trying to see how much more data there was on actual populations not just free lunch, asshole to see how to divvy up the zones to distribute across 3 high schoold without major disruption everyone. All I am saying about the others people's posts implying thst demographics is the number one factor, I disagree. Most t rational people would want to be close to their school and with other students they grew up with and not have the county pay for more buses. The peopke at aps stated at the 10/12 meeting that demographics was not a primary factor but 1 of 6.

I live closer to Wakefield and want my kid to go there for the same reasons as you. I would prefer the county not completely botch the demographics. Also, can anyone speak to the rumor that the new condos going up Columbia Pike ( at four mile) are now going to be CAF apts. Anyone hear about this?



We've been told they will be market rate, as will the new apartments at the Food Star site.

If it is this ugly now how much uglier will it get if they ever build a 4th high school? I was driving on Rte 50 today at around 3 thinking how much it is going to suck for those having to bus to Wakefield when WL is still closer. I am also glad my kids won't have to. And before you scream racist, we just live much closer to the other 2 schools.
