This whole thread is confusing. First we are lead to believe OP's child is too advanced for the book she brought home - but later we are told the child doesn't read on her own and reads Bob books. I think OP is a troll at this point.

She's reading level 2 and the teacher is sending the level of BOB books. Shouldn't she be aware of where her students are? The have had reading tests so the scores are available.
Just bringing it back to your recent comments. Teachers should give students books that they can read by themselves to read at home. You have already said that she can only read BOB level books and understand them completely. That is what the teacher should be giving her! And she is! She is building confidence and getting her used to reading. You can work with her on other books with harder levels, but that isn't her reading level, that is the reading level that you are teaching her. Stop trying to second guess.

She does not read on her own. We read together at night. I read to her and then I give her a book to read. I don't give her a choice. Well, sometimes I give her a choice, but they are all the same level. At first it was BOBBooks, now it's books from the Scholastic "I can read" series, level 1 and 2.
She can read them and comprehend most of the text.

OP here. I don't think she's advanced or gifted.
I'll let her choose books. But so far she has been progressing to higher levels of BOB books until she could fluently read them all.
She does not show a lot of curiosity though. She will read if you ask her and she enjoys it, but she prefers to play which we also do a lot.
I don't. I don't have time. I let her pick books at book fairs and she picks the ones with toys enclosed or the character she likes, not because of the book.
She picks books at her library at school, but they are usually advanced and I read them to her.
I just think they should be reading aloud in K every day. Right now it looks like they maybe get to read fifteen minutes a week.

How often do you take her to library and let her pick out whatever's interesting, regardless of reading level?
