Some other info to consider when looking at similarities in the cases..Dunning and Kirby were shot multiple times. I can't find it at the moment, but I thought I remembered reading that Lodato and the caregiver were each shot once. If the cases are connected, could the shooter have been planning to shoot Lodato more than once, but the caregiver walked in and threw the suspect off?

If he is minorly nearsighted, and plans on shooting pretty much point-blank, he wouldn't need contacts or glasses.

I am severely near sighted, and could not tell there is a person near me unless they were a foot away. My DH is nearsighted but his case is minor -he can read, drive, etc without his glasses.

Perhaps someone that is shooting at close range. This wasn't a sniper shooting, it is just a wild theory I had, I have zero credentials. On the flip side, he may be wearing non prescription glasses to throw off suspicion. Obviously I am obsessing over this, but I live a few blocks away so I am pretty anxious about it.

if you envious the person without the facial hair, he would look much younger IMO.

I don't know many older/elderly people that don't wear glasses or contacts, at least some of the time. The shooter wearing glasses, at least part of the time, is a statistical likelihood.

If someone is shooting from close range, and shooting to kill, they don't generally shoot the arm unless something throws them off..another possibility would be that the caregiver saw the gun and ran into another room. We haven't explicitly been told that the suspect didn't enter the house, but it sounds like he didn't go in.

Just brainstorming but..Nancy Dunning was at Potomac Yards Target the morning she was killed. Could she have been followed? Did Ron Kirby go anywhere the morning he was killed? Did Ruthanne Lodato? If she was followed, the suspect may know she was at home, but he wouldn't necessarily know if anyone else was.

That's a perfectly valid point. Think of how different the suspect could look wearing glasses, hat (winter or baseball -- cover balding), and no beard.

My guess would be the suspect is watching to see who is home during the day, then targets that house. Like he would see that someone's around at 11:30 on every Thursday afternoon, and targets a house where he feels confident someone will be home when he shoots.

I think he's the type of person to plan things out - plan on a specific house. That would make it eaiser for him to get away, and plan his escape route after an attack.

It would be stupid to just ring doorbells on a random house (even a random house in a certain neighborhood), and wait until someone opens the door. The gunman seems smart (although psychotic, obviously), and knows he would need to plan how to get away from a very specific house.

But I agree he was probably surprised that two people came to the door at the Lodato house.

I think the suspect was surprised that more than one person was home/answered the door at the Lodato residence. The fact that the caregiver was shot in the arm makes me think she may have walked in the foyer a few seconds after the door was opened and she startled him, so he shot at her as he was about to run. It was most likely close range, so that could explain why she was wounded in the arm rather than somewhere else.

In my mind it's a no-brainer. He is a neighbor of these people and ran home after the shootings. He was probably back in his house before the helicopters went up.


I think he lives nearby too. I also think it's possible he's not targeting a certain demographic. Maybe that's just who's been home at 11:30 in the afternoon. And maybe a lot of the old people in these neighborhoods are "prominent members of Alexandria" because they've lived in the area so long.
