I do not condone the things she has said but, I do not think she deserves to lose all her business ventures.

This. Like Paula Deen said this morning, if there is anyone who never said something they regretted, or said something that would hurt someone else if they heard it, she'd like them to come forward and throw a boulder at her, because she'd like to meet that person.
That applies to all you "better than thou's" on DCUM.
That's what I'm trying to get at. This board has some very judgmental folks on it (can't go to that school because of ESOL or FARMS, I can't buy in THAT neighborhood). Those are underlying stereotypes which are just as hurtful to society than saying a slur.
I'm just not into the hypersensitive PC crap. I teach my kids to respect everyone and don't use slurs out loud but have thought them PLENTY of times. Have you ever driven here???

I find it objectionable that anyone would not understand that those words speak to a mind-set and belief system steeped in a history of dehuminization, degradation, violence and oppression -- therefore... knowing someone uses them...AND could possibly be guilty of workplace discrimination...yea...like I said before...I can see how a company thinks that is not a good look for them.
What is so hard to comprehend here?
That it has nothing to do with the lawsuit. Paula Deen does not even go to or work at the restaurant. That it is mind police. She might have thought a negative thought therefore she took the action and so on and so on....

Yea...only a word. That word just happens to be one of the most hateful and divisive words known to man with a lot of negative history behind it. A person who says it in a targeted fashion is intending to hurt, demean and humiliate....but it is just a word?
Jews who survived the Holocaust might beg to differ.
