There's not a labor shortage, there's a livable wage shortage.

If your business can't pay a livable wage, then your business is a failure. That's how capitalism works.

Or when your workers have to rely on social services and various low income subsidies to survive.

Bottom line is, the topic we are discussing is directly related to this, because if you take too many living wage paying jobs and make them unavailable to your citizens then your citizens will have fewer options, and will start looking at low wage service jobs as the only way to survive if unable to get professional jobs or make it in trades. This will start inflating the need for social services and taxpayer sponsored benefits for working poor, because companies employing low wage workers do not want to pay living wages. And in many cases cannot afford to if their margins are already too thin, like in small business setting.

You are saying these businesses should fail, but when what is left?

We know that companies make more profits using cheaper labor, duh. The question is, at which point we will have to do something about it (like taxing foreign offshore labor), when our main employers in the country become 3 sectors that are largely taxpayer dependent (Healthcare, education, government functions). We are becoming a socialized economy. We are already "socialized" if you think about it. We pay taxes on our labor to provide jobs for others, pay for social services, which also provide jobs. Even in states like CA/NY Healthcare and social services are primary employers (despite these states being touted as hubs for Technology and Finance). This is not a good economy, it's an illusion of "business 101" while stock prices and RE prices inflate until the day too many people will have to start cashing out.

In Aspen hotels, they get foreign workers on J1 visa to work for cheap. I don't understand why those jobs aren't going to young citizens?

Dems do want to help workers by..

1. offering parental leave
2. helping with childcare costs
3. providing affordable health insurance
4. increasing minimum wage
5. investing in renewable energy to create jobs, not to mention reduce reliance on dirty fuel and foreign energy, which leads us to...
6. not starting a stupid foreign war that increases gas and food prices
7. not starting a stupid trade war that increases prices overall.

Two complementary bills now pending would deliver what executive action cannot. In the House, Rep. Eli Crane's End H-1B Visa Abuse Act (H.R. 8443) pauses new H-1B issuance for three years, then permanently cuts the cap to 25,000 and imposes a real labor-market test on every petition. In the Senate, Sen. Tom Cotton's Visa Cap Enforcement Act (S. 2941) closes the loopholes that let hundreds of thousands of additional foreign workers slip past the 65,000 statutory cap each year. Together, they address both the size of the program and the loopholes that inflate it well beyond what Congress originally authorized.

Send a message to your U.S. Representative urging him/her to support and pass H.R. 8443, the End H-1B Visa Abuse Act, and to your U.S. Senators urging them to support and pass S. 2941, the Visa Cap Enforcement Act.

This is all great, but even if this passes, available jobs for American citizens are unlikely to increase without also targeting outsourcing. Every major fortune 500 company has an offshore outlet or a contract with a big offshore bodyshop to provide labor that could be done by our grads easily in the USA. The number of these positions across all the companies is enormous. Right now there is zero penalty or any type of tax for our corporations to offshore the entire departments if they wanted to. It's time to tax this sh*t. I don't see how these extra profits are trickling down to us.

The US relies on H2 foreign workers to work on farms. There is no way American workers will work those jobs. And before someone says, "Well, if they pay enough they will." Think things through. Business 101... labor is the most expensive part of the cost of goods/services for a company.

Unlike the service jobs at Trump's hotels where Americans really did want to work there, but they were the wrong skin color.
