How do you think it became a “public letter”? Taylor didn’t release it.
Thanks for sharing that, CO staff member. It"s Saturday night, relax, take some time off, maybe the problem is you are burnt out and that is why MCPS's public communications are such a sh&t show
How do you think the letter became public?
Probably through a PIA request right? Because, the letter is legally subject to public disclosure - written by a public SERVANT to publicly elected officials - all taxpayer funded.
Not likely PIA. That process takes much longer. It must have been either a sender or a recipient (or agent of) intentionally sending to the press.
Mink had a lot more to fam from doing that than Taylor did.
Because he sent a letter to all her colleagues that clearly referenced her actions without naming her. Everyone he addressed it to knew he was referring to her in several parts of the meandering letter.
I want to make sure I understand, you agree it was likely Minke that made it “public” and not Taylor?
(And thank you for understanding my typo in the PP!)
I have no idea who made it public, but Taylor wrote a letter addressed to "elected leaders of Montgomery County" containing false accusations about one of the leaders, so he was essentially attacking her publicly and passive aggressively.
So if I send you an email asking you to refrain from doing something and you then hand that email to the press, I have now attacked you publicly?

This is all just...false.
I mean it definitely made it sound like Mink is coming by unannounced and giving advice that hasn't been reviewed by MCPS staff.
It in no way mentioned Mink, and it said that informal visits have become commonplace lately, so it is likely meant to address a larger issue than just one person's actions.

I'm this poster. I have never met the man.
I have not defended him or his actions on this thread until it came to the topic of the letter he issued regarding the safety of schools in the current environment and the assertion that it was appropriate or "picking a fight."
The letter followed established protocols for communicating with local leaders. It commended them for their service during a difficult and dangerous time, asked for their partnership, shared detailed information about plans for dealing with immigration enforcement, updated them on communications by both him and the BOE to staff and the community, and asked them to follow safety protocols set out about visitors to schools. It said in bold "We want you in our schools and we want you to visit regularly." It asked them to stay in communication about visits and respect processes, protocols and policies.
I understand that Taylor is doing a lot of things that people disagree with, and with good reason. But again, I think it is important to maintain some clarity of message in opposition. Expanding the vitriol to a letter about school and student safety protocols in this environment is counterproductive. There is a much bigger picture here.
DP you seem to believe you and only you are interpreting that letter correctly. Many of us genuinely disagree with you. I'm sorry but we aren't going to agree.

+1
Sends a terrible message that he dgaf and won't listen to anyone
I think he means he won’t listen to chronic cranks such as the Mad Mommies of MoCo who are always Big Mad.
Which is fair. They lack credibility and their feelings aren’t valid.
It was clear he meant he won’t listen to State Senator Cheryl Kagan. He thinks she lacks credibility and her feelings aren’t valid. She is also a very powerful State Senator. Let’s see how that works out for him.
Correct. He’s also now picked a fight with Education & Culture Committee member Kristin Mink:
https://bethesdamagazine.com/2026/02/27/mcps-district-rules-immigration/
This is not picking a fight. This is actually doing his job to keep students and schools a safe place to learn. I wouldn't mix this issue with the boundary/closing issue. They are not remotely alike.
How is it not picking a fight when Kristin clearly says she felt targeted by Taylor’s letter, and was disappointed and taken aback by it? She also vowed to keep doing the Know Your Rights sessions and showing up at schools. So she and Taylor are in open conflict now.
This is literally a fight now between 1 of 3 people on the E&C Committee, who decide how much to fund MCPS, and Dr. Taylor.
Dr. Taylor would have been much better off having a direct meeting with Mink and her team about his concerns rather than doing a general, passive aggressive letter attacking her and then having your PIO deny it was directed at her in the first place, as if she and the rest of the public are too dumb to see that he’s lying.
Is it "picking a fight" any time anybody does something that somebody else doesn't like? Maybe she "picked a fight" with him by giving operational advice to MCPS employees?
That letter was professional and cordial. It didn't "attack" anybody. Did you even read the letter?
"I am writing for two reasons, because I need your help: (1) – I want to share information about what the school system is doing about immigration enforcement, and (2) – to update you on guidance the school system shared with elected officials about school visits in February 2023 (before I came back to MCPS)."
https://montgomeryperspective.com/2026/02/25/taylor-sets-boundaries-for-elected-officials-at-mcps-schools/
Again, not EVERYTHING the man does has to be a terrible thing. And painting it like that undercuts the credibility of those who oppose the bad things he is doing.
You are ignoring the fact that Mink perceived the letter as an attack, stated as much and expressed disapproval of Taylor’s approach. This is not MY opinion. This is the opinion of an elected official who felt targeted by him and has now responded, which indeed makes it a conflict.
Why are you struggling to read and comprehend?
I am concerned about Taylor trying to bottleneck council members visits to schools. If you have derelict facilities and you are getting nowhere with the school district (that tends to hide problems), then visits from council members are helpful. Now, principals will be threatened into shutting these down. Taylor, with more big brother control.
No, the principals just want advance notice of who's coming.
You must think we're stupid. Principals have always been aware of council member visits - it's the threat from CO to principals that will be shutting down visits. But don't worry. We will be taking notes and reporting in council testimony about the strangulation of information that results from Taylor's new control policy. As much as Taylor thinks he is king of the hill, this type of intimidation will not win him points in the end.
Taylor's own words: "We want you in our schools, and we want you to visit regularly. That said, it is imperative that you follow these protocols when you visit so we can keep everyone safe and keep the school’s leadership informed."
Nothing wrong with that.
You are full of it Essie. The community knows BS when we see it. Move along.
Not Essie. What is BS about it? You don't want schools to have visitor protocols?
They do have protocols which Mink was apparently following.
But not everyone was following them, and now there are revised protocols, which he was sharing via this letter.
"We have made a few updates to account for the world as it is today. Linked here are our updated protocols for school visits and tours, which include a Google form to ensure full awareness and documentation of visitors in our schools or on school grounds. While informal visits may have become commonplace, it is particularly imperative now that we reiterate and reinforce this standing policy."
He addressed the letter to "Elected Officials". If MCPS has protocols regarding visits, as they do and should, it is up to MCPS staff to follow them. Why did he address elected officials and who wasn't following the protocols? Whoever you are you are just digging yourself deeper with this incoherent defense of Taylor.
Um, the letter he sent references and links to a letter sent to the Council under the PRIOR superintendent about those protocols. This wasn’t novel or inappropriate.
LOL. That first letter was from McKnight's superintendency. Not the best justification for Taylor to use, but if that is where he is landing for an example to follow, I am not surprised.
