The thing is, it's SO MUCH better than the absolutely horrific first season of AJLT. And yet it's so, so bad.

A podcast I listen to blames the writer's room for not having anyone in their actual 50s/60s writing for the show. If these women were in their 40s, ok maybe some of their nonsense might make some sense but it just does not hang together.

Also, these are amazingly wealthy women who try to pretend they are not (when the inane story calls for it) except for sometimes, when they do want us to know they go to private events at Tiffany's. A writer's room where the writers are also coming to terms with the latter part of their careers, or thinknig about legacy, or the next chapter of their lives (and no, Miranda's career storyline is so stupid I can't even remember most of it) could have humor and heart. I can maybe buy that Seema has to pull back a little but her whole idiocy of saving money on salons and nonsense - it's so unrealistic. give us a full picture of her life, not just I can't have a driver and now have eye infections. Or have the cheaper lash guy be abolsutely fabulous and she elevates them. Just come on. Show her as downfall in her 60s due to be too trusting in a male dominated industry (and then fighting back) or show her as a smart accomlished career woman who takes advantage of her new circumstances. Just don't try to mealy mouth stupidity through both scenarios simultaneously.

Here’s other examples of dropped story lines:

- Carrie frets about not texting Aidan, she doesn’t at all, she writes and erases, he sends a thumbs down to the table…without more. All of a sudden, calls and texts become a non-issue? Never to be raised again.


- Aidan sleeps with his ex-wife, Carrie and Aidan fight about it…Carrie never has a second of insecurity that he’s in VA and sees his ex after that (Did you see her today? Does she know you told me? Does her boyfriend know?)

And just like that, I would rather watch another episode of Sponge Bob than a Sex in the City spin-off. I would like them to segue into a whodunit mystery and kill off all the characters one by one. It would be a more humane show, and leave no chance for another reunion.

Watch The Guided Age…Nixon’s acting in it makes Davis look like she has immense talent.

I mostly enjoy the over the top drama and caricatures in The Gilded Age, but Cynthia Nixon is so bad I will actually fast forward through her parts. But AJLT is completely unwatchable.

The whole Big erasure thing is absurd. The series and both movies ended with an affirmation of their true love. Oh, and where is her huge black diamond ring?

The current Aidan storyline is pathetic.

I think if you watch this show you just have to embrace that it is what it is - familiar character that are comfortable to watch. Not the weightiest show in the world but that’s fine. I do agree that Aidan has gotttt to go, I am so tired of him and he provides no value to Carrie whatsoever.

Yeah, at least one of them needs to be single. Looks like it will be Carrie moving forward, at least for now.

You literally have Patti Lupone and Christopher Jackson in the same room and you get lame teenager singing? Not that having Patti or Christopher sing would make sense in anyway with the snippets we've been given, but STILL.

These topics can still be covered with excellent writing and acting. It is not the topics that are objectionable, it is the thrown in storylines that lead no where:

Scene with Lisa's son singing. Did we know he was a singer before? It went on and on and is apparently a one off topic - so odd.

So, for example, a "grumpy teen" topic could be very well done (Charlotte complains to her friends about it, complains to Harry about it, pretends to others her life is perfect but at home we see cracks in the perfection, etc.). Harry's diagnosis could be very well done (we see him snap at Charlotte as he is coming to grips with possible impotence or incontinence, we see him feeling depressed when he sees even his dad can easily still have sex).

OK, Christopher Jackson did sing earlier this season but you could do more - he could be singing with his son to survive a terrible party, or something that works in the storyline he's been given (which is nothing so who knows). Patti Lupone instead of cutting ANthony at the party could have walked out but before doing so grabbed the mic and just slay before walking out. Or singing with Cantone and blowing it all away. Anything other than Miranda pathetically asking anyone? anyone?

2. Charlotte had a literal storyline about an impotent husband. Harry represented her in that divorce. Here's a storyline - Harry sees sex all around (including his father), recognizes his life is changing, worries about Charlotte's response and Charlotte and he have a meaningful conversation about growing old together and how strong their bond is. Not Charlotte weeping everywhere but sure, weeping then handling with grace and a recognition of how far she's come and how deep her love is for Harry.
