This is another place where I think it's about who deserves empathy. American citizens are struggling. It's not clear to me why my local mechanic has a lifelong obligation to send money to the people of Sudan, simply because he's American. We've sent a ton of money to these countries over the years, and nothing changes. They don't improve. Maybe our money isn't the answer for them. But, it is often the answer for the working households earning the money.

I haven't read this thread. But I'll answer the question. I am very empathetic. But I disagree about who deserves empathy. For example, I emphasize with victims of crime more than the people who committed those crimes. Its not that I don't empathize that criminals may have endured tough circumstances. It's that I think it's bad for society to send the message that it's okay to commit crimes as long as you have been a victim as well. That becomes a justification for any crime, and that's bad for society. It's good for society for laws to be enforced and for people to be held accountable for their crimes.

Well if we're gonna live we gotta eat and have fun doing it is how human nature is. So do the math. Billions of people or untouched land. Exhibit A is the oil industry. No way we aren't going without it. Again, great to pat yourself on the back about being an environmentalist until you have to weigh that against being humanistic. I'm not talking elites but the rich sports and movie stars. The well to do multi millionaires. The average person who is retired and can travel most of the year.

So we have this prob where we have a lot of people needing resources to live on this planet. Not sure how the planet will fare but I'm suggesting the people will prob win. But in doing so we will likely need to kill the planet. There really is only 2 choices and that may be dark but it's true.
