The preview has them calling for, "wartime medicine" with a mass shooting. I'm not in medicine but I get the impression official shifts probably go out the door in times like that... I have an MD friend who had to respond to a mass shooting on basically the first day of residency (not literally, but not far from it) and it was like anyone with a degree was asked to rise to the occasion and step up in ways that would be considered unorthodox under more "normal" ER circumstances.
Intentionally similar to what happened during Covid, when first year medical and nursing students went to work, people came out of retirement, etc. The show is structured around how this ED is faring five years after Covid, the PTSD of the people who went through it, etc. An event like this is likely even more triggering.
