I can’t believe this book wasn’t self published. It’s garbage—didn’t pay a dime as I listened to it through Hoopla.

I feel a little sorry for Maret. Although the author wants the entire Sidwell community to know that she sends her “kids to Maret and [she’s] glad [she] did,” she clearly doesn’t think Maret is worth writing a book about—even a positive book. She gives Sidwell way more time and attention than the school she “chose” for her children. I wonder why. 🤔

My gosh yes, that one blew me away too.

I just returned it on Audible. It was completely unreadable (in-listenable).

The narrator (aka author’s obvious proxy) is so full of contempt for everyone and everything that the book exudes misery. She hates her colleagues, she hates school parents, she hates her mother, she hates her own DAUGHTER. No thanks.

There’s no dirt or secret insight here. I say this as someone who’s a big fan of Roman a clefs and the sub-sub-genre of “novels about famous schools”. This one does not bring the goods.

The author sure tried, but the effect is laughable. Representative example overreach:

“The curriculum is fine,” said Mrs X. Ms. Narrator knew that this is private school parent speak for ‘Don’t change anything.’

Private school parent speak, lol! Who knew we were all conversing in it and that it sounds exactly like vernacular English?!

Fragile is the key word here. The author’s entry in Sidwell’s alumni magazine suggests that she has some serious unresolved issues with the school.

Someone taking their weird Sidwell obsessions way too far…

I thought the same thing. Her post in Sidwell’s alumni magazine about PPP, and now this book screams “I have an unhealthy obsession with Sidwell…and I have lots of unresolved issues.”

If she’s happy with Maret she should focus her energy on that school. Help your new HOS from Whittle.

That was so bizarre! Kudos to Sidwell for publishing her quote. There must be a mental health issue involved. Who in their right mind would give the following quote to the Sidwell alumni magazine:

“I sent my kids to Maret and am glad I did” ?!

The book drips with middle school hate — this is an author with many complexes and an axe to grind

Some in her class read the novel and it’s soooo bad. But in keeping with the quality of her powerpoints. TBH is known to be shallow and self-referential. You just need to parrot some passages back and it’s an easy credit so meh

Doublechecked it’s the right person on the link the PP posted and certain it’s true because it has been removed from the Maret website

Always assumed the author ran the acknowledgement by the people they acknowledged. I guess not!

Erm. Yes, but before we realized what the novel would be — you can believe the PP or not but it’s 100% true. People are cringing away from the “author”.
