I have to interrupt this thread to say that as an Italian American from North Jersey, the fact that you used the term "goomah" had me rolling... And I agree with you,, she would have been a good classic goomah or mafioso wife, absolutely.

I want them to make it, but this is the most staged looking set of photos. LOL

It’s Something people immediately found questionable given she was a Catholic school kid so sneakers wouldn’t have been worn at school and it’s hard to imagine her dad wouldn’t buy her shoes if she had holes in them . One also questioned how she was able to travel and compete nationally for track if her parents couldn’t afford proper shoes.
The more she talks, the more of a hole she digs
I have encountered other MC/UMC people who went to Catholic K-12 doing this same thing -- exaggerating deprivation or hard times in order to come across as hard-scrabble, when they actually had very comfortable upbringings. I sometimes think there is something about Catholic education, perhaps the strictness of it or the emphasis on self denial, that causes this behavior? It is odd.
But it's also not that unusual for celebrities. JLo is a bit of an extreme example but MANY celebrities tell a story of a very deprived upbringing because it makes for a better story, and can make fans more sympathetic or forgiving (or maybe make them more relatable). Fans also sometimes impose these stories onto celebrities, even if the celebrity doesn't really sell it. It's fascinating. But JLo is definitely more dramatic about it -- most celebs don't go to these lengths to try and convince people that they came from nothing, even if they will imply it or allow false stories about it to circulate.
