I’ve always believed she only ran to Diddy and getting a music career after her disastrous 1998 Movieline interview.

She thought she might be finished in Hollywood. In fact, her agents probably told her that. She went after all the A listers in the infamous interview lol.

That’s a true gem as well.

I have to interrupt this thread to say that as an Italian American from North Jersey, the fact that you used the term "goomah" had me rolling... And I agree with you,, she would have been a good classic goomah or mafioso wife, absolutely.

100% as a NYC girl. In her "Selena" days she was on the back of a convertible and peaced out almost immediately surrounded by the PR parade to take coverage in the safety of Henri Bendel to get off of fifth avenue because of crowds. This "Jenny from the block" schtick is exactly that, a schtick. I'll also always remember her P. Diddy arrest she spent a few hours in jail and groaned about not having access to a $200 cuticle cream. She's always been a piece of work.

No. She showed up at his daughter’s event. He was gracious. There was no affection there.

She'll be OK, though. On to the next thing.

The Tiktok backlash she received last month was so hilarious. So many waitresses and staffers who accommodated her said she was a nightmare and hell on wheels and asked that nobody look her in the eyes and in some cases that they turn around and face the wall as she passes by. Apparently she’d even get so jealous she’d take back tips given to waitresses by Ben and her ex ARod.

What a crazy woman. No wonder every man runs for the hills.

Somethings truly insane with her

The more she talks, the more of a hole she digs

I have encountered other MC/UMC people who went to Catholic K-12 doing this same thing -- exaggerating deprivation or hard times in order to come across as hard-scrabble, when they actually had very comfortable upbringings. I sometimes think there is something about Catholic education, perhaps the strictness of it or the emphasis on self denial, that causes this behavior? It is odd.

But it's also not that unusual for celebrities. JLo is a bit of an extreme example but MANY celebrities tell a story of a very deprived upbringing because it makes for a better story, and can make fans more sympathetic or forgiving (or maybe make them more relatable). Fans also sometimes impose these stories onto celebrities, even if the celebrity doesn't really sell it. It's fascinating. But JLo is definitely more dramatic about it -- most celebs don't go to these lengths to try and convince people that they came from nothing, even if they will imply it or allow false stories about it to circulate.

The high school she went to was in the good part of the Bronx -in a waterfront retiree neighborhood bordering Queens and was mostly Italian/Irish Catholic girls.

I would be annoyed if I were her parents . She makes it seem like she grew up in the projects . Her parents worked hard to make sure she and her sisters had an education. Her younger sister worked as a Tv anchor for New York news. Neither girl even has the slightest Bronx or Puerto Rican accent or at least know how to code switch and it’s why they were able to get the jobs in acting and journalism that they got. J Lo didn’t get typecast like Rosie Perez because she didn’t have the thick New Yawk Latina accent like a Rosie or Cardi B.

Her true calling is comedy.

Her little laugh when he didn't recognize her when she added "Lopez" felt like a bit of mockery...like she's thinking "you don't know who I am?...idiot." Then she just ignores him. Classic.
