PSA - Monday 11/6 and Tuesday11/7 tryouts

If you are still looking for a spot, these are some clubs I would consider -->20 matches, +/->40% win rates in AES at 15s last year. Based on those stats, these clubs are more likely to offer a decent maybe even great experience on a regional team.

Monday 11/6
American
DMV
East Coast Elite (Ellicott City)
Libero
MEVC
Mojo
MOCO
Virginia Athletics

(Academy and Renaissance are also options but new, so not sure what to make of them)

Tuesday 11/7
Loudon Elite
Metro Central/East/North/South (1 tryout in Rockville)
Virginia Athletics

This list was out together quickly, so no promises it's complete. The full list can be found on the CHRVA site here , can sort by date:https://www.chrva.org/page/show/3927262-chrva-girls-volleyball

This tryout season has been absolutely awful for High school-aged VB players and their parents.

Best of luck to everyone!

Yes, just about all of the JV and Varsity players at McLean have club experience. I think it is more mixed for the freshman team. There is a fairly wide range of clubs represented - ECP (until this year), VaElite, Vienna Elite, etc.

Last year was our first foray into this crazy world of club VB and their were easily 75+ for 15s at a club fielding two teams in the age group. Vienna Elite said they had 150+ for U15s last year, and ended up creating a fifth team if I remember correctly.

This year, we were more strategic and attended more pre-tryout clinics where DD wanted to play (all high/high-ish 16s Open level). Attended one tryout on Friday and one on Saturday (DD's preferred #1 and #2 options). We left Sunday for "safety" options, but at the last minute DD asked if she could go to a Metro Travel makeup tryout. We were like "What?!?! Now you tell us!" We did end up squeezing in a safety late Sunday. She ended up at her first choice, but not on her preferred team ... so she's playing on-age (15s ... September birthday) vs. one year up as she had done last year.

I’m glad it worked out for your DD.

I’d imagine that is for Metro regional teams, which is a decent option vs Mojo

I know that travel costs are included for players but as I understand it most parents still travel to all the tournaments. A VA Elite mom told me it cost them close to $18K last year all in. $12K for club fees and then another $6000 for all the parent travel. What are they getting for all that money that you can't get at other clubs? DD was pretty interested this year because she has some HS teammates who play there but we just couldn't make sense of the price tag.

Ask the director. It’s a good question. I know that they provide a lot of extra positional training, and their practice space is probably expensive. I’m fairly certain that for 15s and up fees include some travel fees because parents arent required to travel with the girls.

Our DD played there, and also at one of the other ‘big’ clubs. We travelled to east coast tourneys but not to anything further afield - it was quite nice not having to travel every tournament. Overall, the costs worked out slightly higher than the other club (where you had to travel to every tourney with your DD), but not that much that it was a factor in choosing clubs. Their recruiting was infinitely better as well.

Oh this is great news! TY! DD will definitely be there - registering now! While maybe not as much travel as mojo we know these teams are solid and the coaching is also pretty good. We have a friend who played for Metro South last year and the team did pretty well and the girls and coaches weren’t toxic.

I have a U16 player who received this call back. She already missed tryouts for other clubs because of MOJO original tryout and a first call back. Are both 16s teams fully formed? If so, what's the point for this final callback? There is no cost to it. We might end up club less this year since we put all the eggs in the Mojo basket.

Also, we did attend Renaissance main tryout and did not hear back. Any point to reach out to Chris?

thank you!

I would reach out to Chris re Renaissance. I thought for 16U there was a very small showing on Saturday (which isn’t surprising since it was almost impossible to make both Mojo and Renaissance).

This whole process is beginning to look like a money grab scam. You can't possibly evaluate 80 girls on 4 courts at one time trying out for different clubs in 1 hour. Especially without filming it and going back to watch tape. It seems as though roster spots only open up do to injury or a player leaving the area. Otherwise a team will just promote up from the previous age tier.
