My husband I keep looking at the GDS map that outlines the off limit streets, and unless I’m insane, it looks like both sides of Wisconsin are fair game and you can do what you want. Maybe that’s not honoring what the spirit of the agreement is, but that’s sure as heck what the map looks like.
That's definitely a correct reading of the map. And it makes complete sense because there are no actual neighbors on the west side of Wisconsin. It's a super busy road, with a vacant lot, an abandoned car dealership, Steak and Eggs, and other fine dining options. But no neighbors.
The head of the ANC was not just mean-spirited, but simply wrong in vilifying GDS parents who are doing drop-offs and pick-ups on Wisconsin during the last ANC meeting. You would think that he would have reviewed the MOU before going off like he did. And I don't understand why GDS failed to correct the ANC on this point about Wisconsin Ave. in the meeting. Did no one--either from GDS or the ANC--review the MOU before this contentious meeting? Such poor preparation.
Yes, GDS was wrong to not have filed their report to the ANC--someone in GDS administration clearly dropped the ball there--and GDS should have notified the ANC and DDOT of the increased number of students due to unanticipated COVID yield. The excuse "but we were busy with COVID" was weak. But to actually malign GDS as encouraging families to "cheat" is almost slanderous. You would think that the other ANC commissioners, especially the one with the kid at GDS, would have tried to straighten the record and insert some objectivity into the conflict. What a terrible ANC meeting. Disappointing all around.
Totally agreed. The head of the ANC is exactly the type we know who take these roles. A small-ball lawyer with nothing better to do but to foot fault on some reg. this is the DC classic in every neighborhood commission, homeowners association etc.

This could have been resolved by a phone call to GDS. This guy instead chooses to call them out publicly.
I hope GDS keeps a copy of this video because the ANC isn’t going to leave this embarrassment up much longer.

Your anger and name calling are misdirected. Look within people. Lots of highly educated and successful GDS people pointing the finger at others for their own wrong doing. Just own up to the mistakes and make it right. You are setting a terrible example for your children.
The fact is that the school missed reporting 1 year (not 2 or even 3). The fact is that the school did own up to their mistake. Who is writing this stuff? Are you even paying attention?
You are not paying attention. What year are you alleging was the only one missed? HOW did GDS own up to their MISTAKES (yes, that is plural)? You are delusional and the prime example of privilege. It is showing.
Anonymous wrote:Sorry, you're totally incorrect. Yes, everyone must abide by pre-existing DC rules on WI Avenue. But there are many places on that street where people can -- and do -- drop off or pick up all kinds of people. So, we agree -- follow DC law.
What DC MAY NOT do is do anything to restrict the GDS community from dropping off their kids in lawful places on WI now. That is absolutely not legal -- you can't target one group of people in light of all of the similar activity already happening.
So if DC wants to ban all drop offs and pick ups anywhere on WI Avenue, that might happen. But then the residents near the school will have to live with those same restrictions.
Anyway, I just want to get the principle out there. This is a super easy lawsuit. It is based on a foundational principle that is very important -- no government can target a community for no valid reason. No government can arbitrarily restrict access to busy streets just because their leaders like or do not like a particular community. That isn't going to happen here, I promise.

Anonymous wrote:I have some research and one thing is very clear: NO PART OF THE DC GOVERNMENT, whether the ANC or DDOT or any other entity can restrict the right people have to travel on major streets, including Wisconsin Avenue. The idea by the ANC that they can restrict drop offs or travel on that street is patently unlawful, both under D.C. and federal law. It is especially unlawful when one takes into account how many other vehicles are stopping on Wisconsin Avenue near GDS -- including, among other things, deliveries, ubers, taxis, and so on. The ANC is not trying to restrict any of those vehicle movements more than is already permitted under DC law, and they cannot do so here. Further, the school and its parents have a valid safety interest in dropping their kids near the school, if they cannot drop at the school itself. The ANC is not taking this safety interest into account at all. At bottom, if the ANC tries to impose -- or any other DC agency tries to impose - restrictions specific to GDS kids on Wisconsin Avenue, they will be sued immediately. The ANC is absolutely crazy, here, in terms of its treatment over all. But they most certainly are not going to restrict rights people have by law in their effort to go after the GDS community.
Get a clue.

How will it help GDS to now have a written record of 100+ disparaging comments on the ANC? I get they are anonymous but it is clear GDS parents are commenting quite a bit.

1.The ANC actually had a valid point that GDS was late - it was stupid and entitled. So fine them whatever the contract says and move along. You don't deserve 4 MILLION DOLLARS for a contract violation unless the contract says so. You would think since this guy is a "Lawyer" he would know that.
2.Maybe there needs to be more clarification about Wisconsin drop off and what constitutes
a "Violation" and what defines neighborhood. If someone drops kid a Starbucks in Tenleytown is that OK? I think the local businesses want those morning customers.
3. Whose interests is this crazy dude representing? Instead of screaming about Tesla, singing, and cutting off neighbors who are trying to work with the school for positive change maybe do your ANC Job and listen to your constituents and figure out how to find resolution.
The ANC was an embarrassment. It's why that jerk Mitch McConnell said the federal government "Needs to give 'adult supervision'" to DC. That is coded language and racist as F, but behavior like this Tenleytown/GDS meeting makes DC look like a bunch of toddlers and lunatics.
