Just leveling the speculation- his last podcast opens with a discussion of his health, that he’s been to the medical center twice for bronchitis and a lot of people there have the same thing and the cough sounds like a death rattle (his words not mine).


He definitely had something going on, there is no dispute about that. The State Department has announced they are working to repatriate his remains expeditiously. If Qatar makes his remains immediately available intact so they can be autopsied, I will give them benefit of the doubt on the rest of it. If they play games, that will look very suspicious.

It was such a perfect day of soccer. My family spent as much time together today as we did in the early days of the pandemic, and it was so lovely. Grant would have written an amazing piece about it. I hate this.

DP. There is no mistake, Grant Wahl is confirmed dead. The only question is whether someone made it happen. Wahl was getting death threats over his pride shirt and his critical coverage of Qatar’s human rights abuses.

I’m afraid his brother is understandably in shock. But Wahl was a big name in soccer coverage. Far too young.

NPR has confirmed that he has died. Grant Wahl was the journalist who wore the rainbow soccer ball shirt into one of the early games a few weeks ago.
