Mask optional come March 1. It’s the law.

-1. FCPS files a lawsuit next week on the issue of local control and asks for a TRO.

We used to lay on the carpeted area of a hatchback Datsun for road trips with pillows and blankets.

How old are you? People most definitely complained about seat belt laws and tobacco laws.

+1. My older relatives never wore seatbelts and I’m not sure they do now if they are in a backseat. We didn’t have them on as kids. They were thought of as optional, if you were in the front. This was NY in the 70s. And yes, smoking was common. It was a big deal when restaurants stopped having smoking sections.

We used to lay down in the back of a van on vacation road trips. The 70's/80's were just a different (better in many ways) era....

I used to sit on the edge of an open car window while my mom drove down the highway! Insane!

I personally would call it - FCPS wants you to mask until moderate transmission when it will really be optional but they are aware you can opt out under the law on 3/1. I think the kids who don’t mask will be in the minority but if you want that to be your hill to die on, I think that’s going to be your right come 3/1.
I don’t even think we should have a mask mandate with vaccines now - but just saying what I think will actually happen.

I bet the plan is that before 3/1, FCPS will determine that the metrics support optional masking. Even if they don't align with their actual plan, they hope CDC does something next week so they can muddy that water. Then, they'll say students can comply with their new rules. Oh by the way, there's an annoying law out there that that we barely acknowledge...the real reason we're making it mask optional is because it's our new rule.

So it’s still not clear to everyone.

Seat belts make driving dramatically safer. Masks are some kind of woke shibboleth. Your analogy is asinine.

lol I could also see that.

They look like toddlers being petulant either way, but this would be easier on my kids, who hate masks. Once my glasses wearer started complaining (and yes, we tried all the tricks and have a good enough solution, but it hasn’t stopped the complaints), the other kids joined right in. Since I don’t think masks as usually worn move the needle much they are going to unmask March 1 if they want to.

Masks - as they are currently mandated don’t work to prevent covid - so there’s that. And with the widespread availability of vaccines - it doesn’t make sense to mandate better masks.
