Friend in TX has been texting me freaking out about the cases in her child's class. Over 50% of the class has come down with Covid in the last week, do you really want it like that?

That means it’s time for a different approach. Get vaccinated. And stay home if you’re sick and showing symptoms, come back once you’re 24 hours fever free without meds and symptoms improving. Whoever heard of staying home for 5-12 days for a minor illness?

You're contagious for 2 days before you have symptoms and some people don't have symptoms but can pass it on.

This is 2020, today's "science" tells workers testing positive to get back to work 5 days after... And medical workers can work while they are testing positive, the same day! Are you living under a rock?

How would you know if you were contagious before you had symptoms? Most people aren’t testing multiple times a week. And the rapid tests aren’t reliable for people without symptoms or who have “non-specific” mild symptoms.

I've got friends on both sides of this issue. 100% of the anti-masker families I know have already caught covid at least once. Less than 50% of the people I know who voluntarily wear masks have had this supposedly "inevitable" disease.

Yeah. Just anecdotal, obviously, but our family has strived to be diligent about masking and the other guidelines for the past 2 years, and none of us have gotten COVID. We do not eat out indoors, we do not use our gym membership currently, we wear masks in public, we got vaxxed as soon as eligible, etc. it does not feel like a huge sacrifice for us, and if everybody who could also did this, the pandemic would be over sooner.

Clearly you have a huge chip on your shoulder because of this and won't be pleased until we have zero Covid? Did I get this right? No sniffle would be acceptable to you ever. Pandemic will not end until people stop freaking out and demand completely sterile germ free world where nobody is dying for any reason other than ancient age

Yeah, actually I would be pleased if we could send COVID to the realm of things like measles or polio. I think that is doable and would be a great thing.

Yes, it really matters. KF94s and N95s are highly effective. It really matters. Stay in the kids about mask wearing.

I have to believe that in the real world, people aren’t as willfully ignorant as many of the voices here on DCUM

In the real world people aren't as crazy as this Covidian cult echo chamber on DCUM, but sounds like you aren't really living in the real world anyway.

Many of your neighbors have been working in person since sometime in 2020. We all can’t “just stay home.”

Right. That’s why I said “everybody who could.” Those who can take the precautions (I.e. work from home), should. In part to ease the burden on those who cannot

But it didn’t make any difference in the end. Covid is here to stay because of infections in mostly unvaccinated, developing countries. Your actions didn’t really make any difference. I mean, they kept you Covid-free (I’m assuming) which is great, for you, if that was your goal. But you staying home and giving up a lot of things that make life worth living didn’t meaningfully ease any societal burdens.

Makes sense. We already had Covid and done with it. Those who haven't had it have easy access to free vaccines for any age group now. Time for mandates to go away, anyone can wear one if they want to.

Tell me you're clueless about the fact there is no vaccine for 4 and under yet and also an ableist who is clueless about how people on immunosuppressive medications don't have the same level of protection without directly telling me.

Stop your excuses! a few truly immunocompromised people isn't the reason to mask our children forever, because you know Covid isn't going away! And under 4 are not at risk from Covid and never were to start with. Data has been clear on this from the get go, nothing has changed.

I could easily slip my finger between their mask somewhere along the mask line and their face in at least 70% of all cases. If there is a finger size gap (really even a much small gap) the mask isn’t filtering the air going in or out. It’s a fact my OHSA folks will confirm. It’s theatre. Dont get me started on cloth and paper masks even if those fit snugger which they don’t. The masks aren’t doing much. Better to have a weekly test IMO. Or nothing. I’d be fine with nothing. But if we are going to force a mitigation we should at least pick the lowest cost option that works. Masking has a cost.

Amen, rational person. So sick and tired of this Covid theater and so many by now already had it, that it makes no sense at all. Better thing, get tested for nucleocapsid antibodies, if you have them, you had Covid, confirmed. Move on. If you are worried after you had been vaccinated I don't know what will assure you, but many of us are tired to live our lives in the shadow of your permanent anxieties.

Seriously, there is something wrong with you. There is no lifetime immunity from COVID. It is a vascular disease. Wanting to avoid infection isn’t just about fearing death; it is a pragmatic desire to avoid serious disability and unknown long term effects.
