If mattress stores and Steak and Egg is what they want for the neighborhood, then what can I say. The oldsters don't get what younger families want. Wouldn't the school's vision have been better, with vibrant retail and smart-fast casual dining options? I know someone who was thinking of this spot for DC's first-ever Israeli-Asian fusion option. Would have been perfect, but he'll go elsewhere now.
Your facts are all wrong here. While there are local residents opposed to the plan, they weren't ultimately responsible for GDS's about turn. The article below goes into great detail about the circumstances that led to the elimination of the residential portion of the plan. The article is long; references to GDS are towards the end.

On a recent admissions tour, they said they planned to have the consolidated campus open in the fall of 2020. No idea how realistic that is.
That's been the talking point since 2020, though a lot has changed since then. I suppose it's still possible.

Is he the only black person that has ever served on the GDS board? If so, that's pathetic.
If you are name dropping, that is also pathetic.
It is superficial to look at the composition of the Trustees at any moment in time. GDS has a proud and iconic place in the civil rights history of our city, and DC officials are keenly aware of it.
