I think option 3 is the best for the county’s goal but with definite tweaking.

For me, options 1 & 4 are non-starters because they still leave Wheaton ~120% over capacity. Why build a new school to alleviate overcrowding if we’re not going to actually alleviate overcrowding?

Option 3 is too expensive and a poor use of tax dollars that should be spent on teaching and learning.

2 is the only viable option here but I think they’ll come up with different ones after this comment period.

Because this isn’t about the dcc, it’s about wj.

But it is about facility utilization.

Yeah I think if the primary goal was utilization then option 2 is the only answer. Or some other solution for options 1 and 4 that lets kids in overcrowded schools choose to go to underutilized schools (without providing busing).

The only good part of Option 3, is it rezones all of Kensington to Einstein, which reduces bussing. I would like them to take that one aspect and apply it to Options 1, 2, and 4 and see what they can come up with.

Many people on this thread do not agree with this. It's not rational to pay a $300k premium on your house if you really believe this.

The higher paying jobs are in VA not Montgomery County and certainly not eastern Montgomery County. The K street law firms are also closer to the west side. There are a lot of people for whom living in Silver Spring would double their commute time. Rockville has a large established Asian community, churches, family owned restaurants, multigenerational families. The western side also has an established Jewish population, There are lots of reasons why highly educated groups choose the west over the east.

Some families do commute to VA from down county. Easy beltway access. Rockville is not that much closer and a lot further depending on the location. We are highly educated.

Thanks for this. Reassuring to hear that people are paying for location and not schools out west. Sounds like no one should worry about their property values.

Stop being a troll and try to have a conversation.

DP. but they are right, if a critical mass of people did not buy in certain places for the schools then there would be no concern about property values

Do you get paid to troll

Sounds like you do

No property values will still tank for areas being moved into less desirable schools especially if it involves a long bus ride or pulling kids away from peer groups in ES/MS. It will simply raise values in the western areas that are still in good schools with walkability or short bus rides. No one is going to move east.

Similar rezoning in other areas has suggested this prediction to be accurate.
