I believe in interviews they have acknowledged a prenup, and good for her.

I couldn’t believe Theresa married Gerry after hearing the girlfriend’s story! Gerry is such a sleazy guy. I seriously cannot imagine anyone liking him after everything that has come out about him! I hope Theresa had a prenup. I imagine she did as she seems smart with money. I was not a huge fan of her in the show but she had handled the divorce with such class and grace that I admire her. Well she was the breadwinner in addition to the primary parent, who still cooked and cleaned. Plus volunteered in the community. She was probably constantly exhausted, partly why she let herself go. Must have been a bee in Gerry's bonnet given his nastiness about his next GF's extra ten pounds. This is all speculation, of course, but I don't think his wife's life was an easy one. And she had to contend with his giant ego.

I wish people would try to remember that Theresa got married when she was a teenager, basically has zero experience dating and no BS detection skills that most of us learned the hard way over time. She felt like a giddy teenager again, got caught up in all the excitement, was thrilled to be chosen and is a trusting person. She made a big mistake and I'm sure learned lessons. Agree she's being gracious and discreet about the end of the relationship, good for her.

I think it's so weird that you can be this old and yet this stupid. They had no reason at their age to bother getting married so fast- yet they did.

I think the fact that Gerry was the one who actually said the words on TV to announce it ("We decided after many conversations that we are better off dissolving the marriage" -- or something to that effect), means that Gerry was the one who brought up the idea of quitting the relationship.

Prior to the announcement, I think Theresa was showing signs that she didn't want to change her life that much. She didn't want to compromise on where they live or leave her job or have Gerry hanging around playing the "retiree life" when she is busy busy. They were on two different speeds. There is nothing wrong (AT ALL) with enjoying your hobbies, exercising, and keeping responsibilities to a minimum. But, Theresa is more money motivated, and more status motivated. She cares what she wears and cares what people think. She is more NJ. Gerry, being a mid-western guy, can't see himself moving to her house and following her. He has no community in NJ. They are just on different speeds. He wants to sit at the lake house and enjoy quiet sunsets. She wants to keep day-trading and be near her grandkids.

They are from different regions, with different expectations of what they want to do in life now. Neither is wrong. Just wrong for each other.

I think Theresa would have been happy living her life in NJ with occasional visits/trips with Gerry.

Gerry, on the other hand, saw little benefit of being limited by marriage, without regular benefits. He's thinking -- If I'm living in Indiana, and she's in NJ, then what's the point? Theresa's thinking -- this works for me!

Neither one seemed very sad about the divorce -- which means that once the glitter settled, neither one was that invested in the idea of marriage anyway.

In some ways, the whole episode was the ultimate Bachelor Nation experience: For decades, the audience has observed that the climax of the show (i.e. the finale with an "engagement") is really just a suggestion between the lead and a contestant. It's well known that the engagements wither and die 6 months down the line. So, Golden Bachelor just took that truth to the next level --- Oh, so you (the audience) are jaded and don't care anymore about engagements? HA! Well do you one step further with a televised wedding! HA!

The result is, in fact, the same. But, it created an additional layer for the viewers. That's what making good tv is all about -- taking something known to the next level.

We still want to believe in a fairy tale and the GP trappings of cars trips and castles, can be very intoxicating. Throw in a competition to win the grand prize, takes you right back to winning the HS quarterback and popular girl award. Until you wake up and realize the glitter washes off and you are faced with someone from Indiana whom you probably never would of talked to in the first place.
