Not having watched prior shoes in that genre it took only a quick Google search and quick review of his older pictures to determine that he was basically an average working Joe from Indiana. And he had been given quite the glow up (the suits, the nose, the hair, the tan). Large numbers of the American audience were duped, not just Theresa. More evidence of the dumbing down of America I suppose. I knew it was stupid the whole time but still, we watched. So I can't critique anyone. It was a provocative concept. But stupid, yes.

The Golden Bachelor was nice fantasy reality TV for those of us over 50 who can’t seem to find anyone for a fun night out on a decent date!

My over-50 friends and I enjoyed discussing the show, the fabulous contestants, and who cheesy Gerry would dump next. But we’re all over it now, not wasting time on this nonsense anymore (except we may group watch the first episode of Golden Bachelorette)… it’s back to book club or the movies.

This. I felt as if they were both acting and Theresa often wore a fake smile. But a woman who spent years alone and wasted time on awful dates with icky men can easily fall for a Gerry. Still I never could imagine how Theresa could take Gerry seriously after learning how poorly he treated Lesley and lied about her being the one while he was courting her for life.

I agree with the person that said they got married for a paycheck. Who’s to say they did not strike a deal in suite, make some quick bucks, put on show of century.

Yes, they were pressured by producers and given financial incentives as well. They received "talent fees."

Poor Theresa bought into the tightly crafted GB persona and thought Gerry was a prince. Um, no. She seemed a lot less giddy once the ex's account was made public. And much less happy after all after getting to know the real him, who is controlling and cheap per his ex.


He does seem controlling and largely full of sh*t, lots of talking and yet saying little of substance. Tedious. She must have lacked the depth and intellect to see this and/or been so hungry for a fantasy and connection that she turned away from the signs. As people newly in love do....which is why people date for a couple years. To actually make a sound judgment after the biology of sexual connection mutes a bit. They both look foolish and are likely embarrassed.

Gerry is a fake jerk. Theresa is okay, but she put on this “I will always put you first….”blah blah. Gerry loved that. Personally I never believed a word he said.
Theresa probably got his number sooner rather than later. But don’t kid yourself. She likes the limelight just as much as he does. However, bottom line, she could no longer fake her feelings for a trip to Italy.
I cannot wait for the real truth in this whole thing. Love all the intrigue.

I think she learned his affable persona is just an act, and he has a real mean streak. His ex's account of her treatment was upsetting. Who could trust him after reading that?
