Real scenario. New player on a team, Dad of good player makes comment that so and so should be playing a certain position to another parent. A few days later coach plays the player in said position and process to leave them there for entire season. This is a parent calling the shots not coincidental. Coaches are easily influenced by some parents.

They don't. Several teams have the same coach this year as last year. When possible, a team keeps a coach for two years, and then they move them around.

The coach slate does not have the turnover that others claim. Yes, there have been a few that left due to moving out of the area, but also, some were not renewed. Others have been added as the club has grown. Natural attrition, just like any other club or company.

Of course they do tryouts. It’s just rebranded to ID sessions. Like the neighboring clubs. Rinse and repeat. Nothing original. Copycat style. But, it’s a revolutionary thing ya know

They are only testing it for the middle school ages, not high school. It’s an experiment that even they admit might not work.


You know it won’t work. Clubs are about money and winning games, nothing else. They dont care about developing players.


The new evaluation system is being done at all levels not just middle school. It was introduced in the high school players parent meeting and sent in an email, as well. Also, no one at the club said they don't think it will work. As a parent I feel like it is a good system and gives the players more communication with their coaches because there will be more than one coach looking at them and giving them feedback.

Internally, VRSC now ranks all kids in an age group/gender, starting at U8/pre-travel.

Answers above are tone deaf. Read the satatememt by mlsnext about how club soccer is rating players. Once you understand what they’ve said, you will understand how the best players now are not the best players in the future and clubs need to adequately reward the players who will be the best players of the future. Winning games is not the right measurement.

It’s rare. They typically put way too many kids on the roster so there isn’t any room room to move up.

You just said the coaches already know who the bad players are and it’s just confirming it. And then these same bad players are not getting as much playing time? That’s your grand conspiracy?

The bad players are supposed to get less time at this age. That’s how competitive sport works. It sounds like you want GA teams to give equal playing time to all players? In competitive sports if you aren’t getting enough playing time you need to find a different level or team where you will.

My DD is on a ga team and certain parents do select the teams. The way it's done is by a whisper campaign.
The favorite players who play the entire game have parents talk negatively about players behind their backs. Then the favorite players parents go to the coach and make suggestions. The process is effective to eliminate the worst players. The coaches already know who the bad players are so it's just confirming what they already know. Unfortunately, this doesn't work very well for player development. The MLS next program just announced a new method for ranking teams. Hopefully the ga will implement something similar to make sure it really is about development.
