When are we getting the final boundary?

The final recommendation will be revealed on or before July 16 when the school board votes.

And the thread has evolved into a Westfield thread because pretty much everyone else got what they wanted. But the impacts of the final scenario on Westfield is very much on topic.

Pretty much just two posters saying the same things over and over for dozens of pages now trying to get the last word in. Nothing useful posted for days.

It's all part of the same ball of wax. Skyview is located in the Westfield district, more Skyview students will come from Westfield than any other school, and more kids will be moved to Westfield to backfill it than to any other school sending kids to Skyview.

Final superintendent's recommendation is due July 9 with public hearing on July 13 and School Board vote on July 16.

Look.
I am in favor of Walney area moving to Westfield. It makes sense and Walney Oaks should go, too.
I am strong in favor of keeping Chantilly Mews area at Chantilly for the reasons given. I've taught in a very poor school and proximity to the school is key for poor kids.

That said, there will still be plenty of kids at Westfield. I think sending the Trinity Parkway group to Westfield is ridiculous when there are Bull Run areas contiguous to Virginia Run and other Westfield schools off of 29.

However, Westfield will still have enough students to support good programs. They will not be losing all the young teachers all at once, either.

Schools lose teachers every year. Not all young teachers are the "best" as some seem to think. And, the destaffing is also based on programs--not just seniority.

Westfield - getting smaller and poorer?

Then scores drop. Then Great Schools ratings drop. Then people start avoiding. Then enrollment and scores drop more. Then Great Schools ratings drop. More people avoid. Repeat cycle.

Might not be obvious at first, but this is what can happen.

Or, if the anticipated enrollment (2083) at Westfield is the basis for the suggestion, what about the schools that are projected to have fewer students, which include Herndon, Marshall, South County, Falls Church, South Lakes, Annandale, Mount Vernon, Skyview, and Lewis?

Were any of those other schools selected by FCPS to lose 700 students in 2 years? I am not familiar with all of the areas.

Chantilly is losing 640 or so per the boundary tool.

But they are being left with enough students and have a low enough FARMs rate that its unlikely to have a negative result for their academic programing.

You're going to have to be more specific with the decision-makers as to who you think should be moved instead, and why, and not just take the position that a bunch more kids should get moved until you magically get enough non-FARMS kids to make you feel better.

Those kids were moved as part of the county-wide review back in January. It's a small area at Greenbriar East that's moving from Johnson/Fairfax to Rocky Run/Chantilly. It was odd that they were adding anyone to Chantilly, but people correctly anticipated that they'd end up proposing to move far more kids out of Chantilly later to Westfield.

I don't remember the specifics, but it was likely the result of special pleading to Reid at a community meeting. At one point, the consultants had proposed other changes to the current Fairfax HS attendance island, but they got dropped along the way.
